A little more info like what type of game would help. Also what do you mean by randomly?

It sounds like your limits are set to low or if the machine is set to where coins go to game and you drop them to fast it will kick out any coins that make it to the hopper before the diverter can kick on.

the game will be idle, know one is playing it, the hopper turns on 20 - 30 coins come  then it stops , no pay in the window

Is this a S2000? I know that on a S+, there is a solid state relay that turns the hopper on. If it is going bad, it can cause a random turn on. Not sure if a S2000 uses one or not since the hopper voltage is lower.

looking at the wiring diagram,  all the hopper functions go through the cabinet I/O board ( one mounted on the cpu cage)   I'd try swapping  out that board first , then work my way back to the cpu.

Hope this helps

Did you consider that you might be feeding coins into the machine too fast?
In other words dropping 4 coins on a 3 coin game, where the 4th coin is accepted before the the coin acceptor goes into inhibit mode?

But he said it does it when the machine is idle and nobody is using it.  Sherlock Smiley

I have had a machine where the cylinoid for the pull arm would go of randomly on it's own If I remember corectly the problem was the I/O card.
