Hey Darell,

This is going to sound "way out in left field", but I can reproduce this exact behavior with certain DSV SIMM's.  Which game do you have and if you remove the DSV SIMM and MML2 board, does the problem go away?

When it's blank, is the game still functional or is it not working at all?  Do coins or bills register?  If the above doesn't change anything, does a different MPU or power supply change anything?

Thanks,
Jason

You are probably using a 5-5-2 display and either using too new game chips and/or have too many credit digits trying to display, common on 5 reel games not the Quack, try a 6-6-3 display

If the player display (7-segment) is showing "no disp" that means the VFD controller is not communicating with the machine (has nothing to do with the 7 segment being a 5-5-2 or 6-6-3)
if the 7 segment does not match the machine config you will see "Display Type Mistmatch" on the VFD

Yes it will, seen it and fixed that, not talking about a wrong setting (mismatch), trying to put too many digits in a 5-5-2 will cause it, such as tokenizing to small denoms, also wrong VFD software (too old) could cause it to I guess if newer GME chips

try a different VFD in the machine also make sure the wires to the VFD are being pinched in the door hinge as well.

I am going to change the denom on mine as test to find the exact message displayed when credits are larger than a particular display size

The 7 Segment will put Cdisp. if the number of credits is greater than what the display can show correctly. see the attached picture
I changed the player 1 denom to 1 cent and inserted a ticket valued at $14,700.00 now if I pick another denom on the touchpad then the display shows proper credits.

Is the VFD hardware one or two boards?
the 2 board version has the interface/driver mounted on the door panel below the display.

what version is the chip on the driver?
I suspect if it is not VFD00007 or newer it not going to work with those game chips
