I believe the 31 code if coin out jam.  Make sure there is not a coin blocking the coin out switch at top of hopper.  I have also seen just the optics being blocked by "dust balls".  clear and or clean and re-try the machine.

As well from what I remember.. when you get a 31 code.. you need to first make sure hopper is in properly then a clear must be done.. (Sometimes)

I have ran into this many times when I forget to install hopper, or install bypass plug.. The only way I could get the machine back and running was a full clear..

Also you might just need to open and close the door a few times to clear stacked errors.

??
2 coins in 74 credits?

Are you saying the error 31 is gone, but you now have another error? The green light on the comparator will not come on when the door is opened. When the door is closed and the machine is ready to accept coins the green light will then come on. As well the "insert Coin" light will be flashing on the front of machine.

I guess we all will need a little more info..

There are plenty of topics that give you info on doing a clear. You will need to acquire a set of Clear chips that need to be used to clear machine.. providing it is necessary.. there are guys on here that can help supply those as well.. A little better description of what is happening will be helpful.

You will need clear chips to correct the "31" from what I have experienced.

yes the 31 is gone only 2 periods in window
no errors that I can tell
on coin comp inside no light when i put coin in justdrops in tray(door closed)
I hit cash/credit coins came now nothing in credits window
in the coin in has been 2 has not changed
after opening and closing door a few times
I get c.o.l  20. which says coin in jam
the green light on the outside at first i thought was for the is for the bills which i put 5 in and it gave me 20 credits
cashed that out still have the error

so can i assume the hopper is alright coin comp.could be the culprit

I think the quarter has to be in the comparator  hence comp.
but there is no light on
it has one bulb looks to be red though again not on

I'm a bit confussed by your reply.
With the door shut is the "incert coin" light blinking?
Will it take bills?  If so put a dollar in, you'll get 4 credits if it's set to quarter denomination.
If you get 4 credits, try to play by pushing bet one button, then pull handle or press spin button.  do reels spin?
If you have credits on machine, press the cash out button, does it pay coins out?
You must have a quarter in the coin comparator.

Let us know what happens.

the coin mech switch is and was up still get 20
was this the number of coins you cashed out?  does it still say col(collect)

if not then there may be some dirt or dust blocking the coin optics which is below the comparitor.  blow it out or clean it.

Thanks,
Wayne

I don't see a insert coin blinking there is a green and red light just below the bill acceptor insert bill when green i did put in 5$ and got 20 credits wheel don't spin the only button that worked was cash hit it returned 20 coins

in win paid window it flashes c.o.l. then ..20.
coin in is still 2
credit is 0

at first i thought the green bill light was for the coin slot  being it was just above it,
after reading instruction on machine i realized it was not

thanks

Make sure the bet one switch is snapped in button properly.  If it's taking the $5 and giving credits then it should be ready to play. The reason the incert coin is not flashing is most likely a bad bulb.
does the coin comparator have a quarter in it?

that's exactly what it is suspose to do.  The COL 4 means it payed out 4 credits.
did you check to make sure the bet on switch was seated in button properly and that all wires are on the switch.

should we assume that you bought this machine not working?   please post pictures of the inside of the door and the entire machine.

Make sure you check to make sure the harness behind reel 1 is tight.. Door i/o plug. You will have to remove reel, I would take reel 1,2 out.. then check that plug.. Remove and plug in several times and make sure it is latched and locked in place..
When the door is open try hitting pseudo coin button on the MPU then hit Spin on button panel.. do the reels spin?

If that dont work.. I guess we all will need a little more info regarding machine.. pictures and such..

Thanks

Good luck..

Steve

Life got a little crazy lately. haven't had a chance to mess with the machine.
a day or to ago i noticed the reels just spinning slow,it was hooked up to a switched plug power would go on and off.
well got a minute today opened her up did that pseudo coin  switch click a credit then hit spin there she goes seen red light on coin comp. put in a quarter credit sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
button it all back up taking quarters, taking bills, bet one, spin YAHOO, bet max ,pull the handle SPIN the whole nine yards!!!!

I don't really know what is was but we are rockin and rollin.
i am now a worthy son in law (altough usually short lived)

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP
