I'm looking Into buying a scope and start tinkering with board repairs...... This is a learn as I go kind of thing..... I'm looking for opinions on what scope I can get by with ..... Some of the older ones which were made when these games also were can be had pretty cheap..... How many hz n channel can I get by with to test n diagnose pcbs ????

Looked at a few saw one cheap 20hz 1 chan Tex 2205..... That work ??

Well, I'm sure you will get a lot of different answers. But here is my $.02

20 MHz should be sufficient for most things. Rarely if ever will you need to look at the actual clock signals other than to see if they are there or not.
With the prices of new scopes being fairly low, I would personally avoid buying used unless you can check it out first.
There are relatively cheap scopes that use an LCD instead of a CRT. They typically will display more information, but can also be more complicated to use.
While you can get by with one channel, I would personally get a dual channel.
