Hi,

I'm looking at buying a Game King locally, but the monitor is blurry.  I can't tell if it's the monitor or something behind the touch screen.  I performed a touch screen calibration and adjusted the monitor controls.  The card game looks okay, but when you go into the menu, you can hardly read the text.  This is a 13" CRT.

I didn't buy because I know CRT's are hard/expensive to replace.

Do you think it's the monitor or something between the monitor and touchscreen plate?

Thanks!

Dave  I'm no expert but you can fine adjust the focus using the top adjustment knob on the flyback. It's kind of a pain in the A$$ to do because you have to pull the monitor out of the machine, turn the knob just a little bit and then reinstall the monitor. ( 9 times out of  10 you went the wrong way with the knob. Now your gonna get the whole story about how to be careful that you can be electrocuted, to those that say that I'm still alive.

If it's a Ceronix  monitor, back in the day they use to put a epoxy resin between the picture tube glass and the touch screen glass. Darn stuff got as hard as a rock and nothing you can do with it.

For about $150.00 Happs sells a wire harness 6 or 8 feet long that plugs into the machine and monitor, with the monitor outside the machine these adjustments are easy to make. Here is a picture of a harness I made the other day. I just used a old plug from a junk monitor and extended 15 wires about 6 feet ( I did one wire at a time so no mix ups )

 Buzz, you're awesome!   Hail

I really think it's the resin between the two glasses.  The blur looked more like it was being caused by the touchscreen glass ... like there was something between the two glasses.  As opposed to, a blurry CRT screen.  The CRT screen wasn't clear enough to distinguish a blur in the image.  So, I think you're spot on with the residue.  This is a Ceronix.  I could drive back down there and try the other adjustments since it's a good price, but my luck, I'd electrocute myself!   lightning bolt

Thanks again for your quick reply!

Thanks Steve.  The machine was in the garage and it's plausible that the Vegas heat affected the resin, if it exists.  Is $500 too much for this outdated machine?  Other folks are asking a lot more for these machines.  But if the monitor has to be replaced, then it's really work only half that and I know she just can't let it go that low.  I did consider attempting the CRT to LCD project (that would be fun), but in the end, wouldn't be worth it.  It would have to be a 3902.

So, I think I'm going to pass on it (unless you think $500 is a steal).

I agree, but unfortunately, no one in Vegas will sell a GK 13" for less than $500. bawling  (Although, I did sell one for $400 with a bad MPU).  All the others are $800 or more, even for the 13" 3802.  The problem is they all paid too much for them originally.  There is one right now for $650, but I know where it came from and it's not 100% genuine ... somewhat hacked together ... and even that one's not selling.  The one I really like is a gold package 3902 in excellent shape, but he won't go less than $1300.  So, I guess I"ll wait for another.

Thank you all for your expertise! applause

UPDATE: Looks like the $650 seller just dropped to $450.  Maybe I should take a look at it?  Closer look ... I think that's a different one.  Hmmm ...
