Hi, I have a double diamond slot s or s+ not sure but last board update was 2008 with a bill validator. Quck dumb question, when i put a bill in it, it goes to credits $1 = 4 $2= 8 credits and so on,  But when i try to put more than 2 quarters in at a time it only lets 2 in ( the max play is 2) the third and so on go back to the tray and no credits are accumulated.  Is this normal for the machine or is there a setting to allow you to dump quarters in and it goes to the credits as a dollar bill does? Otherwise the machine plays great just this one last thing and if it cannot be changed that's ok was just curious. Thank you so much in advance

if you have an S or S+ this is normal.  As far as I know you can not accumulate credits by inserting coins.

I'll agree with Bob that it is normal behavior for an S+, however, there are special SP chips (basically the operating system of the slot) that permit what are called "Montana Credits" which will do what you're asking (where inserted coins above the max bet go to the credit meter).  If you really want to be able to do that, you can purchase a new SP chip for your machine and can then enable that option (chances are very slim that the existing chip in your machine can do it).

If you're interested in going down that road, please start by telling us what SP and SS chips are in your machine, and we can give you guidance from there.  You can determine your chip numbers by following the instructions here:

Thanks for clearing that up Kevin. I was confused, as I was thinking that was one of the advantages of a Montana credits chip, but didn't want to muddy the waters if I was incorrect.

Hello!  This is EXACTLY what I was looking for!  I've been having the hardest time searching for the correct way to ask this.  I would love to get a new chip to allow my Volcano machine to do this "Montana Credits" thing.  My chips are: SS4427 and SP0495.  I would greatly appreciate some guidance as to what chip(s) I should get and how to go about installing them and getting this new setting.  Thanks for your help in advance!

Thank you both for the replies. It's a shame this wont work with my machine, but it's okay- I'm enjoying it enough already! Thanks to this site, I've got the slot machine bug now. I'll be back with more questions as I work on making my machine the best it can be. Thanks again!
