Need help to clear error code "21" coin in error code

Hello,

I have a IGT "Tiple Jackpot"  (I think it's an S+, but not 100% sure, so photo include below of the factory ID plate ). 

I also read the IGT error code sheet and it basically states to open & close the door, which I have done,  but does not clear the error.. it comes right back.

My question is do I need to do anything else like turning the reset key, or using some clear-chip?

Yes Moe, that is an S+ machine. Did you check for any obvious coin jams in the coin in chute, coin comparitor area, and below? Sometimes a coin will get hung up and cause a jam.

Hello CV slots..  Thanks for confirming that I have an "S+" machine.   


On the coiin error,  I did remove and inspect the coin comparitor,  there was 1 coin stuck inside (my 5 year old daughter put it in after the error came up),  and so at this point.. all looks ok visually, but the error code still exist

21 is indicating a jam in the coin-in optics, which are located below the comparator. Coins pass through the comparator, then if they're accepted they fall through to the coin-in optics to actually register a credit to the machine.

Either there is dust/debris/a coin blocking the optics, or your coin-in optics assembly has gone bad.

(Unrelated, you mentioned that you removed a jammed coin from the comparator -- you didn't remove the sample coin that's supposed to be in there, did you?)

Hi Knagl,   I did leave the sample coin in place.  When I first got the machine, it had a game token as the sample.  I personally wanted to use silver dollars, so I changed that out an it worked out well.

I will check the optics for dust, debris,ect.

No! A ram Clear chip will NEVER fix a code [21] Paul!! 
It will wipe out the machines settings and disable a DBV! 
Then he will HAVE to buy a SET chip to re-enable the DBV.


1). Replace the "Sample" coin in the Coin Comparitor with an undamaged one.
As pristine as one you can find in your hopper amongst the other coins in there.

2). Check the coin-in optic sandwiched boards UNDER the Coin Comparitor.
There might be dust balls or paper blocking an optic hole alongside the pathway the coin falls through it.
Use some compressed air can bending the straw....do NOT tilt the can of air, bend the straw instead or
you will shoot excess water instead of alcohol onto the electronics that are soldered on the boards.

3) There could be a loose/broken wire in the CC harness.

4). Check the hopper optics too.
All optics in a machine are related...including the cabinet door optics.
There could be a tiny piece of human hair or paper blocking the hopper optic eyes on top of the knife.

5). There's another thing to try but try the first 4 suggestions 1st.

when you open and close the door( actually lift up and push down the latch to the bottom position) does the display go blank for a few seconds and then the 21 reappears?

if so :  open the door, find the white test button (next to or on the rear of the power switch module) push the button until you see a 10_1 in the winners paid window. turn the reset switch one time, display should be 11_1, now press the tiny white button on the optics board, display should toggle to 11_0 everytime the switch is pushed. turn the reset key once more, 12_1 in display. if all these conditions are met then the optics are doing what they should be doing. repeat the test ( turn reset until you get to the 10_1) now wiggle the 10 pin connector going to the optic board, observe the display , if nothing changes then try the next and repeat, then do the next, if all is solid the connector is good. follow the plug that feeds that sub assembly, usually to the right of the bracket that holds the CC-16. make sure it is plugged in, try the same test as above and see if anything changes.

im having same problem except my reels continue to spin at a very slow rate ive looked at jams and optics but still code and reels spinning

What codes are you getting rock? [41] [42] [43] ?
If so, just open the door and turn the reset key once and close the door.

hey stayoutadabunker !!  you're a genius..i had the same 21 problem and couldn't clear it for love nor money !!  then i  read this post and  i decided, what the hey, and tried the reset once with the door open and voila !!  the 21 clearted and i'm back in action..what a great site this is..so in honor of you i'm contributing $50 to keep it open/thanks so much for being there/'coach851
