Heres the story... I bought a slot machine on craigslist.  It worked when I bought it and it worked for about a 1/2 dozen quarters when I brought it home.  At that point the machine died.  I found a blown 120V fuse which I replaced and the machine would turn on but would not accept quarters.  I was giving me a hopper error.  I found that the windings on the hopper motor were damage somehow.  I got a new hopper motor installed it and reinstalled the hopper.  Now when I turn the machine on the hopper motor runs continuously and it is giving me a 65-1 error.   I tried pressing the self test button like the manual said but I still get the 65-1 error.

The manual says the next step is to replace the mother board and/or processor board.

My question is, is there anything else I can try before that.

Thanks in advance for any help.

this may sound a little strange, but I just got a call today asking me if I had a wiring harness for the test button...Why I asked?...They replied that they purchased 3 machines about 8 years ago-all S+ machines and now the battery's are starting to fail and after purchasing new batteries and Ram clear chips, he could not get passed the error 61 loop and found out that where he purchased the machines, they took out the harness that goes between the test button and the MPU...Check to make sure your button is wired and hooked up...Just a thought...

Sounds like something got fried. Nothing should cause the hopper motor to run continuously while the machine is displaying an error. I'd tend to agree with the manual -- either the motherboard or MPU might be bad.

If I replace the motherboard and processor board do I need to swap chips from the old board.   Anything else involved other that swapping the boards ?

Yes, you'll need to swap chips. Other than making careful note of what harnesses connect to where on the motherboard, it should be pretty straightforward.

Set chip is mainly for enabling bill validator after a clear.

Unless you have a progressive meter...no you should not need it. You may and I say may...need a clear if and only if you get stuck in a 61-0 loop.

I'm suspecting the hopper motor wires are crossed into the 115V circuit?
Please recheck your hopper wiring before re-installing it into the machine.

Try doing this...>>>Take the suspect hopper out of the machine for a couple of tests...
Power off the machine and turn it back on.
Wait to see if the [65-1] error code pops up with the door open.
If so, now try the Test button with the door opened.
Does the "Coins Played" display on the door make any changes after pressing the Test button?
If so, close the door and wait for the machine to complete its "Boot Up" spins
and drop in a coin without any hopper to see if the machine plays a "pull".

I tried what you said.  Took the hopper out and turned on the machine with the door open.  The 65-1 error did not come up.  When I press the test button the coins played display went from 0 to blank. Then I closed the door and it did let me play a few pulls.   Then I played a pull it came up bar-bar-bar and the candle started flashing.  Now if I turn it off it always comes up bar-bar-bar and the candle flashes and pressing the test button does nothing....  hmm

Any more help is very appreciated...

Thanks

Is there a relay somewhere in the machine that turns the hopper on and off that could have gotten fried when the fuse blew ?
Is it possible thats what is causing the hopper to run continuously ?

Error 3300 is the hopper has no more coins or has not dispensed a coin within 8 seconds or so...Are there plenty of coins in the hopper?...Make sure there is not a coin jamb...

Do you have the correct size coin shelf in the hopper for the coins you are using, Ie: if you are putting quarters in a dollar hopper it will shoot coins out all day as the optics do not see them leaving the hopper. It will keep running till it sees the correct number of coins go out.  If you are shooting under the optic or micro switch..which ever you have they are not counted and it will run forever.

NO....the hopper will continue to try and spit out coins until it has counted up to your jackpot or the hopper payout limit...You must keep adding coins until it reaches either point...Do you see your credits going down and your payout going up as it spits out coins?...If not, then it does not see coins and there is problems with your hopper or MPU board...You could do a ram clear if you have the chips (but I do not recommend that yet)...First find your problem!

Is the display showing the coins paid, is it counting up as the coins are spit out? Or is the display not changing and the coins are still coming out?
