I have a IGT S+ double diamond machine.  It has never worked since I have owned it so I am trying to reserect it.  I put a new battery in I have changed the bill validator form a DBV-45 to a DBV-200 and I did the ram clear and bill validator set on it.  I go through the steps and everything happens the way the directions read but that's where it ends.  I have a couple of different things happening form that point. at fisrt I was getting 3300 in the paid window and the bottom candle was flashing.  after fooling with it a little more the bottom of the candle is flashing and I am showing a 20 in the credit window and 80 in the paid window.  The machine will not accept coins or bills at this point.  I also noticed that U-18 slot on the board does not have a chip in it.  Is this intentionally left empty or is it missing?

I recently got an IGT S+ Double Diamond machine. On the CPU board in slot U-18 there is no eprom chip.  Is this slot intentionally left empty or am i missing a chip?  If it is indeed missing what chip do i need and where can i get one?

Mine have a 28 pin chip labeled SCN2681AC1N28 in U18 socket. I would
put that in the WTB section. I do not know what it is for.

R273 is correct but I'd like to add something if I may?

I could be wrong but I noticed that only the MPU's dated before 1995 had that particular socket location marked as "U18" -
most MPU boards for the S+ later marked that 28-pin socket location as "U27".
Someone please feel free to correct this wild discovery if you see other...Thanks!  yes

Every S+ MPU board I've ever seen has the chip r273 mentioned above and
it is a "DUART" chip...haha! Hope somebody might be able explain what the "duart" chip does 'cause I have no idea!  arrow

A DUART chip is a dual Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter. Older systems, including computers use a UART
which is essentially the Serial Port.
