I have a DBV-146-SH, in an Bally S5500, that will only accept hundred dollar bills.

Given the labeling on it. I believe it was formerly a 146-SG. The smaller white sticker rebadges it as 146-SH.  You have to look closely to see it.

The face of the head says, Accepts: $5, $10, $20, $50, $100.  As I am new to slot ownership, I would prefer to understand my BV before I replace it because, someone considers it junk.  Be that as it may, I want to understand the device and its limitations, before I replace it.

So I have a few questions and appreciate your patience and understanding.

First Question:  Does the SG and SH suffix matter and if so, whats the difference between them?

Second Question:  Can the DBV-146-whatever be set to accept $1 bills?

Third Question:  If I can set it to accept a particular denomination or set of denominations, how is that accomplished?

Fourth Question:  I heard tell, there a set of dip switches that can be set to select denominations on the head. I did not see them when I pulled the head.  Where are they specifically?  I'm like a five year old, pictures help tremendously.  Please Post Pictures Please Post Pictures

Fifth Question: After I insert the hundred the face of my BV will not light until ALL of that hundred has been used and then it will light up again, allowing me to put in another SINGLE $100 bill.  What does this indicate?

I was hoping to find a FAQ on the DBV's - perhaps after I become more savvy I can help someone here put one together.  It would be useful for noobs like me.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Cheers mates.

-Frivlus.

Pull the head only, one screw on front and turn over to see little white dips. That is a very old validator and will only take very old non colored bills. Depending on software version.

It's been a long time since I messed with Bally 5500 so forgive me if I'm wrong on a few things.  ( I also have bad eyes and dropped and broke my glasses this morning.)

First question.    I don't think on a Bally it makes any difference.
Second  "          YES
Third                 YES,   with dip switches on the BV head
Fourth               Remove all the electrical connections to the BV head, front lower there is a spring loaded plunger, pull down on it and slide the head out. Turn the head upside down and remove (4) screws holding a metal         plate to the bottom, dip switches are above that plate.  I will not bet the farm on it but I think all dip switches need to be OFF.

Fifth  On this one every thing is going to be a guess. Let's say your limits are set at $100.00 And dip switch on BV is also set at $100.00, then the machine will not except another bill until you have room for credits but staying below the limit settings. If I'm correct on this and you can change the dip switches to except some smaller bills. Lets say it will except a five, first you put in a hundred, once you play it down to $95.00 ( maybe $94 ) the BV bezel should light up and machine should except a Five. Anything larger it will kick it back out because you would be over your limit.

Lets address your statement about what some folks call a piece of junk. I ask you if you saw someone that still had Windows 95, would you say they had a piece of junk ??  Back in the day it got the job done, and Windows 95 is a whole lot like a DBV 145/146 They were a piece of junk the day they hit the market but got the job done. Shit can that 145 and get a DBV 200 it's just so much better. You will think you just got Windows XP !!!!!!!!

I wish I could tell you how to change the limits, but I just don't remember. I do remember you need to press the test button I think eleven times to get to set up.

Gents, thanks thus far for your responses.  I truly did not think I would get answers so quickly.  Buzz, your thoroughness in answering my questions provides that little kernel of knowledge that piques my curiosity even greater.  Again, thank you, gentlemen.  I will  use what you have shared for the forces of good. :-D

G'Night.

Coors, that's what I have been told and only accepting the hundred (a non-colored bill) seems to validate that but I will have to find the proper settings for the dip switches to ensure the DBV has not set to only accept the hundo.

I will keep you guys posted.

As I stated earlier, thanks for the assist.  I really appreciate it.

Coors,
I originally had dipswitch 1 and 8 set on and 2-7 set to off.  I turned 1 off was you directed.  Now my 146 only accepts singles...it ignores the hundred and everything in between.  Which is not such a bad thing, since there are more people carrying singles than hundreds.

I would lik to know how to set it for other denominations.

I appreciate everyone's help  thus far.

But it wont accept my hundred anymore. when it would before...its the same bill...I decided to keep it as a test bill.

Any ideas?

Worst case scenario better it accepts singles than hundred.   Silly Me!

Go up to the blue tabs NLG File System "Downloads" near the top right side. Click on it then down to BV and you will find the DBV 145 manual.
