Colored light bulbs

I've read some threads about changing to different colored bulbs on the play buttons. So I get a bright ass idea why change to a high dollar light bulb when you can simply add a colored lens below the legends. I used some thin transparent sleeves from my Rolodex. some what like the plastic color  in your lower candle. The red wasn't dark enough so in went the second layer.  Stat seemed to think the heat will get to them. So if it does I have 2 cents invested 2 hours planning and 2 min,s work. What can happen I get a black spot on the plastic Buzz

Actually using colored candle sleeves may work a bit better since they are exposed to heat from the candle bulbs anyway. But good idea. Post some pics!

  Dan I don't have a clue on how to post a pic. If I was smart I won't be a truck driver. And not very good at that. Ask Stat he went with me the other night!! I can tell you the lens works better on the machine with the brighter bulbs. The Bally 5500 looks pretty good, the IGT S not a +  light bulbs not really bright enough   you can see the red tint and looks better than the yellow (white) light

I had also suggested buying theater gels. They will stand up to any heat a slot bulb can put out, since the typical Ellipsoidals and Fresnels used in theater are 750W-1500W and highly concentrated. Of course, the gels wear out rather quickly in those lights.

The brand names for these gels are Roscolene, Roscolar, and Roscolux. Each represents a thicker, and more expensive version. Just Google these names and tons of sellers will come up. The gels are available in more colors that any of us would ever need.

I'd be willing to bet that the colored gels in our slot candles was made by Rosco.

After you pick your color(s) from the Rosco website, here's one place I found that sells Roscolux sheets for $6.93 each. I just googled it, so I am not recommending them. There may be better prices out there as well. These sheets are generally 20"x24" each.

Or how about this! It's a swatchbook for only $0.01. (plus $4.45 - $4.95 SH) If you only need a small piece of several different colors then this might be the way to go.

Awesome stuff!...."softening point" temperature is around 160 degrees Celsius = to?... very hot!
If your button panel lights get that hot....you'd have to wear welding gloves to play....

I googled and found out that it's about 320 degrees Fahrenheit...(somebody gimme a glass of ice water)

Well, since I'm on furlough, I decided to check out using the candle gel inserts in the bet deck switches. I used the Max bet button since its the easiest to get to, but this can be done to any of the buttons. I pulled the switch, cut out the gel to fit inside the switch base, I used 2 layers because I thought one would be too light, put the switch back together and reinstalled on the machine. The color tint is about the same as you get from the 7 color led lights that Dpalmi had mentioned in another thread. To be fair, this button has a white led in it so color tint levels may be different using standard bulbs. From what some other members posted on these gel candle inserts, it may be the easiest mod, especially for S+ owners. Sorry for the quality of some of the pics. Enjoy!

I have several candles that came with all sorts of this material ..... in a good selection of colors.

In that earlier thread it was speculated that this might be the heat resistant material ..... do we have any conformation on that.

I just finished my basement and I would rather not burn down the house by inserting this into my buttons ..... its not the loss that I fear but I would never hear the end of it from my wife....

The Roscolux material is made for high output lights. That stuff would last forever in a slot button. Buzz ordered the sample swatches from B&H photo for $0.01 They had a limit of 2 and charged SH, but it was still a good deal if you want to get a small piece of every color. The full sheets aren't really that expensive either and they'd go a long way.

It looks pretty good too...just the right amount of color comes out of that switch...
Certainly a lot cheaper than buying the colored LED's I'd think...
If it's as safe and heat resistant as everyone says they are....then it's the way to go

The swatches I received from B&H Photo have about 200 colors in each one, some of the samples are way to light in color shade to use on our buttons.   each sample is 1 1/2" by 3 1/4" with a hole punched in one corner,  I think each one is big enough for two large bottons and one or two small ones ( bet one or change) I still have the originals I made in three machines I don't leave them on all the time but so far I see no heat damage at all.  Been thinking of trying a colored felt pen on botton side of a legend  Just a idea if it doesn't work don't know if I can remove the dry ink  Buzz
