Chrome to gold ?

Is there some compound or goo that will transform my chrome into gold?
I have an IGT with gold, but near the buttons it's gone chrome again (wear).
I get a polish and straighten it to be only chrome on the button panel, but
the ideal situation would be gold again! Any ideas?

I think getting it re-plated is going to be your only option. There are gold spray paints that simulte a shiny metal finish, I've used them on toppers. But I think for the bet deck area the only viable option is the plating.

I have used the gold metallic spray paint. After it sets put about three or four coats of spray polyurathane on the door letting each coat dry. This gives it a harder surface and seems to wear fairly well but is no comparison to a professional job.

I think a better option is to get a can of the "Hammered"
gold paint. That is WAY more durable than standard gold
paint, and probably more durable than the original gold
plating.

Also the Hammered effect hides imperfections in the metal.
So you don't have to be real anal about surface prep. I have
done this treatment to several gold front doors on Wms slots,
and have been *very* happy with the results.  Also you don't
have to repaint the whole door. I just masked off the areas
that needed it (but you have to have 'continuity', and mask
to an edge or visual line in the metal.)

Dan if you do get it re-plated a lot of shops plate by the bundle.  At least this is this is the way the shops I have been to do it with chrome.
So, four or five pieces cost the same as one.

You can do it yourself with a brush plating gold kit.
This is the same system that auto manufactures use when you order the Gold Package on a car.
The brush plating process is very easy and gives great results.

That is way cool.

It would take quite a bit of this to redo a car bumper......but perfect for our applications.

try that kit and let us know. i have a feeling it won't work for this
application. it's for small parts. also it will require a fair amount
of surface prep to get a good look between the worn areas.

i really think the hammered paint thing is the easiest and
best approach. it's probably also the cheapest and looks
good with really no surface prep required. Hammered gold
rattle can paint is like $6 at home depot (or at the chicagoland
slot show, there's always a guy selling it there - and he sells
the best brand of hammered paint, the "Hammertone" brand.)

Clay, could you post a picture of the texture that hammered gold paint produces? Speaking for myself, I'm not sure what that paint looks like on a metallic surface, and perhaps some others would be interested as well.

oh, that's very good really...looks good even though it doesn't have the smooth shine of true plating.
I believe that would pass very nicely as long as every thing else matched!
