My unit did not have a bill acceptor. - what parts would I need and how would I get it functional.
Not to sound like a smartass, but you'll need the parts that are missing!
It depends on a) if the machine ever had an embedded bill validator, and b) how much was removed from the machine if it did. Some folks just remove the validator head, transport, power supply, and stacker box ("cash can") -- others remove the entire enclosure. If you care to post a picture or two of your machine with the door open, that'll help us to help you determine what parts you need.
Where would be a good place to locate any Haywire kit for this machine?
You can always try posting in the
classifieds section of the forum, or contacting any of the vendors who have banner ads on
the front page of the site. There are other options, too, like eBay.
Be sure to specify what kind of machine you have (ie. 9" top, 16" top, round top, or slant top) to make sure you get glass that will fit your machine.
Would I have to change the game chip or just the reel chip?
You'd need to change them both. Sierra Silver is a Type 5 game. Haywire is a Type 2 game (Haywire Deluxe is Type 21). I'm not aware of any GAME chip that supports both Type 5 and also Type 2/21.
Can I change the reels from standard to back lite?
As Dan #2 already posted, no, there is no support for backlit reels in an S+. That's an S2000 feature.
Do I have an option to upgrade the sound to Setreo ?
Not really. The sound generator in an S+ is pretty basic, and the machines were only ever produced with a single speaker located above the coin tray. Stereo sound (and enhanced reel spin tunes) is a S2000 feature.
I'm sorry for all of the questions
Don't be. We were all new at some point. Do browse through the topics here in the S+ section, however, as tons of questions have been asked and answered over the years. Don't be afraid to use the search function at the top of the page, either, to help find what you're looking for.
