I incorrectly diagnosed a friends S+ machine error 21 to a bad coin in optics.  I had run input test 10 but it would not change from 10-1 to 10-0.  So I check 3 of my S+ machines at home which all work just fine and got the same bogus results;  10-1 would not change to 10-0.  Input tests 11 & 12 worked as expected- block the beam and they flip to XX-0.  Seems to me input test 10 has issues.

Anyone know whats going on here?   Pull Hair

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, I do it all the time,  just finished repairing and testing 6 sets of coin optics. everyone worked as it should including the 10_1.  try using a small stick (like a Popsicle stick ) to block that beam, the 10_1 is the top set of emitter/detector components.

One of the sets I just repaired was giving me a 21 code in the machine, also when you pushed the small button on the optic board, it would change all three tests, normally test 11_1 is the only one affected by pressing that button.  the middle IR emitter was bad, causing the problem. replaced the IR emitter and everything was good.

Jim,  I am working on my first coin optics from an IGT s+ with the same 21 issue. One of the clear emitters is bad, what is the diode part number and where can I purchase one? thanks.

Q-1-2-3 are the phototransistors  part# QSD733.

DS1-2-3 are the emitters   part#  QED523.

I bought some from Mouser and Happ Controls a long time ago.

Hope this helps

Jim,

Thanks for your help , the emitter QED523 is obsolete, but I found what should be a replacement part that I ordered, OPTEK OP298A.
