I noticed that this board has a chip named "Sound".  I didn't find any posts relating to an S+ sound chip, specifically.

It's a Hot Peppers machine which I assume is the same as Double Diamond.

Game chips installed: SS4712 and SP731.  Currently looking for an SP1271 chip.. . but what does the 'Sound' chip do?  Anything fun or something to Mod?

Thanks...
Mike

It's the tone generator that makes all the wonderful dings and reel spin noise and whatnot on your S+ machine.  Not too much can be done with it -- you can't program any .mp3s into it or anything like that.

Hmm, okay.  So basically, they all contain the same info?

Are there no alternate "Sound" chips for S+ machines .. ?  Or are all sounds on the same chip and the SS chip determines what sounds play per the Game?
Much like the S2000 and it's massive library of sounds,... but they're strictly designated to game type.  ?  Hope that makes sense.   Duh!

Sorry for any confusion.  I just want to make sense of the programing.   stir the pot / get cooking

There are no other reel spin sounds available for your S+ game, if that's what you're asking.  Very few games made further use of the tone generator for some special effects sounds, such as the "scrambled" reel spin sound during the Haywire bonus, and the re-spin "woosh" of static in Tidal Wave and Volcano.

Some of the Spin 'Til You Win games (like Spin 'Til You Win, 4th of July, and Coral Reef, off the top of my head), when used with an older SP chip, gave you the choice of choosing the respin/spin-til-you-win reel spin music from a limited selection of crude tunes.  You could pick any one of the available "songs", and it would only play during the spin-til-you-win bonus.  Normal spins would use the normal S+ reel spin jingle.

If you're interested, here are what those "songs" sound like, which were also used on the PE+ video machines for the jackpot lockup music:

Very cool.  Thank for posting that, knagl.
It reminded me how antiquated things were in the mid-90's...lol.  Gee, a 20MB hard drive was awesome around that time.   propeller

I knew there wouldn't be a lot of options, but since audio is my profession, I was curious when I saw a chip labeled "Sound".   Nerd

This will likely be my only S+ machine...but it's a cool piece of 90's history from IGT.

Thanks again,
Mike
