Working on Alphas. Have 4 MPU that give NO VIDEO INPUT. I put mpu from working machine in & they work-so problem is in mpu.
Power supplies good. Put new batteries in. Put bios & jurisdiction chips in from working mpu. Any suggestions what to look for?
Thanks Ford

Sorry, never had one fail before.
Had bad power supplies and dead batteries for the CMOS, but they always booted up after a clear.

So you don't even get a screen image at boot up to show the boot sequence?   Scratch Head

When you swapped from bad MPU to good MPU did you use the same software?
Could it be a bad CF card.

Never got into clear. The card I use works with other MPU with no problem. Tried another clear card with no difference.

Nothing noticeable when you visually compared the bad MPU(s) with a known good for any signs of damage, failures, etc.??

Did you make sure the BIOS chip is for the operating software ????? Won't boot if not correct. Move the BIOS chip and CF card operating system from a known good machine and see if the MPU starts to boot. The red light will flash.

Ford,
When turn on the MPU switch Do you hear the short video chirp, similar to beep from a P/C when powered on. If not the video out is bad on the MPU.

There are a number of different versions of Alpha MPU, if you use the wrong combination of BIOS and OS you will get nothing coming up

As Coors can tell you, I don't hear to good. I don't think it did. Tomorrow I'll have to check

Harp, Thanks for that .pdf
I had a copy of it when I was setting up some machines on a boat in Port Everglades. I took a picture with my cell phone and it came out like crap. I've been piecing the info together and squinting at the numbers in that lousy picture for 6 months now.  bawling

K+ to you since I won't have to use my poor copy anymore.  applause applause applause

Harp, very helpful.  +1 (Karma, or whatever)
Now, does anyone know what this chip is for?
Also where is the NVRAM battery 1?

807 Bios Chip typically used with AVOS316, 317 etc

In front of the Bios Chip location on the MPU are 2 Batteries, the battery to the right is NVRAM Battery 1

Thanks. The chip was lose in one of machines I got. I put it in for the heck of it. Booted up on screen like a computer. When it stopped I removed chip & put avbbp26s300m-03 like I have in other machines. could do clear & setup. But nvram battery1 low came up. I put 2 new batteries in & checked them, they are good.

3 of the mpu are 203684-1002 rev A. from what I got from info. you posted last night they are for dual screen. Would the be for one
with top & bottom screen? I pulled card out & they still would not work.

UPDATE--FOUND BATTERY PROBLEM. HOLDER BROKE ON BOARD

When you power the game back up and it does not Boot Up, switch the power off at the MPU not the main power switches

Then power the MPU up again, if it starts to Boot Up you have the wrong combination of Bios & OS installed in the game
