Ram Error

This is a great forum of information.  I've been doing lots of reading from here and this is my first posting.  Newbie as par usual has now a major issue with my IGT S2+ Triple Diamond machine.  Machine has worked great for the first few months I owned and after reading many posts from here, I learned not to mess around inside the machine (reset, etc) unless I understood what I was doing first.  Last week all at once, I had two messages on the display.  The first was "the Door Open M" and "Main Battery low".  So I bought a new 2330 battery from amazon, with the two tongs to solder to motherboard.  During my wait, I started to look over my door optics and all looked good, using blue tape to mark the cabinet and door to see if properly aligned and seems to be.  However I did notice a wire (green) to the bill door optic was grounding out from where it was spliced from the PO and the electrical tape came off.  So I reconnected the green wire this time with heat shrink and newly soldered.  Then today, I took the motherboard out, carefully removed the solder points with a wick and replaced with the new battery.  Put the board back in, turned the key to lack in place, turned the power switch on and shut the main door to let reset and run self tests.  Then the Ram Error code displayed, and an alarm is sounding as will as both colors are flashing on my candle.  Ugh!  I thought I was in the clear but guess I'm now back to square one or even worse.  Any thoughts you pros might have would be very helpful while I continue to search here for this common thread.

 With the main door open Just grab a hand full of Jack Pot key and start turning it ( 3 or 4 times ) and watch the VFD display. at some point it's going to tell you to press the test button ( the button on the front of the main board ) for 3 seconds and close the main door. ( hold it a little longer than 3 seconds ) Then you will see " Call Attendant" Open the main door to that beautiful alarm sound, start turning the key some more and follow the VFD directions. (  no harm will be done if you turn the key too many times )

Hello Buzz,

Thanks for the information and the welcome.  I'll try your process in the morning.  The old battery (BR2330) had 2.7v and after installing the new battery by soldering the two pins to the board, I have 3.16v.  I hope that sounds right? Can't wait to try the jack pot key just have too many people over and I want to be alone when I do this, lol

Hello Buzz,

Your directions worked like a charm and now the "Main Battery Low" message is gone and replaced with "Bill Validator Stacker Open".  So I looked for the answer here and found to removed  the bill stacker unit, then re-install trying to properly seat.  I also taped up the door on the bottom with one piece of electrical tape.  After about 10 tries, I turned off machine then turned back on to a "Bill Validator Stacker Error" message instead of open.  And of course I still have the "Door Open M" message of which I was planning on following the link here with bypassing the optic however the wire colors mentioned are different colors than I have.  More on that later I guess.  First I have to get this bill stacker to function correctly.

If your door optics aren't working you can't get the machine to clear errors. The machine seeing the door closed properly is what allows it to reset to clear the other errors. I would deal with that issue first. By the way, your belly door has a cherry switch that can trigger that error and it's OK to tie the two wires together to bypass that switch same as you can with the cash box housing door if you like

So I have it backwards, fix the door first.  I found this great schematic to go by.  Thanks for your information.

Why don't we do some house cleaning, first open the cash can door and on the inside of the door there is a micro switch. This is one of the few times I will ever tell you to cut a wire, but cut those two and splice them together. Most times I also cut the tie wraps and get those two wires to the rear of the BV chassis, just to get them out of the way.  While your in that area I'm hoping you have a WBA BV if you do on the front of the head kind of down low you should see a flat bar, pull down and out at the same time, the BV should slide right out. Now just shove it back in, sometimes they are getting poor electrical connection. If nothing else it makes you feel like you did something. Seeing how your right there pull the cash can loose and shove it back in ( don't be gentle with the cash can, casinos never are.)

As Cowboy said there is a cherry switch on the belly glass door, I've never had one go bad on a S 2000 so if nothing else works we can go back to it.

I'm not a big fan on bypassing the door optics and I use to do it to every machine. Here we go I'm only going to talk about the colored wires from the optic to the plug ( about 3 inches of wire )  with a jumper wire connect the black wire from the door side optic to the red wire at the cabnet optic. Now please understand I'm not talking about any colors after the plug because they both change colors at the plug. The jumper wire I just bare about 3/8 of a inch of wire stuff it down into the optic plug and plug them back together. Your going to now have to cut the jumper wire and connect it back together because at some point your going to have to simulate the door opening and closing by disconnecting and connecting this jumper wire. If your going to leave this bypass on permanently I would cut it over close to the door latch as your going to be using the work light cherry switch.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I like more, playing my machine with my own money being returned to me, or working on these different items inside the cabinet.  Oh and of course without this web page I'd be nowhere.  So I messed with the BV and opened and closed as suggested as well as reconnecting the cash box a few times.  Then moving to the optics, I had wire ready and was going to do the bypass.  As I opened the door and was going to disconnect the door optic, I noticed it wasn't even connect.  Ugh! sometimes it's the simplest things, thank gawd because the machine is back running perfect again.  I didn't bypass anything and as of now all I have done was solder in a new main battery.  I's very grateful it's back up and running but wish I didn't loose my 2000 credits ;-)
