help required

hi guys bought this and now need advice.its a triple diamond 5 coin built about 1995 i think
there is a 43 error and when i switch reels the eror moves with the reel what are my options?
there is a wire broke off from the coin comparator are they easy to repair put back on?
if i can get past this im halfway there!!!

If the problem is following the reel, then most likely the reel motor is shot. Personally I have never had a failed reel motor.
The one reel that is giving you a problem, with power off if you spin the reel by hand does it feel the same as a good one?
With power on is the failed reel stiff like a good reel?

As far as the broken wire for the compairator harness, yes they can be fixed. But to do it properly you will need a pin extractor tool to remove the old pin. A new Molex connector and a Molex pin crimper tool. The easy way would be to follow the wires and about 6 inches that harness has another  connector at the other end. Just replace the entire harness. I haven't bought one in a long time since I have the tools to make them, but I would image they should be $10.00 - $15.00 bucks

tried them with the power off they are the same with the power on there quite stiff
have some info and table 5-1 input test 42 shows as a 0 thought it might be the opto
are the reel motors servicable ? only im in the uk

do you think its worth changing the opto on the reel first ? to see if that cures the problem
or do you think just go for a reel change

Since the machine is an S+, the reels are real cheap.
I would pick one up or test one from another machine if you have.

did you check all the pins in the plug?   I have seen them get pushed in for what ever reason and cause problems.

Does the reel try to spin on startup? If it's just a bad opto it should still at least try to spin as the opto only looks for open and closed when the reel is moving

when the machine starts up it spins all three reels It displays 5 in the coin window and it does this 4 times and then stops and displays the 43 error
oops perhaps I should have said this at the beginning 
as I said if you move reels it follows and if you swap harnesses over it will do this

As mentioned in previous  post...  the   S+  reel  is /  should be quite cheap to replace...  we're talking   $10.  +/-  plus shipping.   If you haven't  fixed the  CC-16  wire harness/connector...  new ones are about $2.

(Kiesub  Electronics /   Las  Vegas  has that connector.)

ok update
new opto fitted repaired cc wire now working a treat (at the mo)
so alls fine but are there any tips on making the tx quieter it seems to resonate hums quite loud
(first thing I learnt as an electrician is why do transformers hum?) answer below

There have been a number of post on methods of quieting the reels. Do a search on the forum and you will find them all.
You are correct that the noise is vibration that get amplified by the reel strips.

I think he said the transformer is humming. Haven't had an s+ for a few years so I'm not sure how Mich noise they normally make, but it should be minimal. Maybe it's getting week or something is pulling high on it

Are you talking about the transformer in the belly door for the fluorescent lights?  I once had an S+ with a noisy transformer.  I simply swapped it out with a different one (a few screws and a molex plug to swap it out) and my problem was resolved.

I was referring to the power tx it seems the metal work is magnifying the noise so I might try to put some rubber mat under the housing tighten everything up see if it makes it quieter

as you guys have been fantastic can anyone give me a brief outline on what it would take to fit a note acceptor into this machine
what makes can you use ?
what harness you need ?
any pointers would be great

I recommend you get a WBA 13.  You will need:
1. WBA Cage with cash can
2.  WBA Transport.
3.  WBA Head with duckbill
4.  WBA Power supply.
5.  You will need a bill entry faceplate with light board/harness and the "$1 to $100 face up" or "Insert bills" yellow faceplate.
6. WBA 12/13 Harness.
7. The dbv harness that connects to the motherboard, I don't know if it was removed from your machine or if it is there, just not plugged to anything.

I'd say about $100 worth of parts

Be aware that the S+ won't support the latest magnetic notes and the coloured $5 are not supported.
So I would not be all that enamoured to spend $100.

My recommendation would be to pretty up and sell this machine and get one with a bill validator already embedded.
IF you are not in a city where slots are common you would be surprized what you can get selling it locally.

You might even be able to get enough to purchase a S2000 from one of the many (great) vendors on the site who offer discounts to NLG contributing members. The S2K can take all the newer bills and good sounds.
