Changing from a 501 to a 504 board

I am changing over from a 501 board to a 504 board to get rid of the 'humming buzz'! Do I need to clear it and Key it or just Key it?

If you're using the chips off the 501 you should just have to reset ram errors and maybe set your enhanced sounds back up.

Would I get a testing memory, alarm and follow the directions? I am very new with the s2000 and still learning.

That's about it, jackpot reset key and open close door. Once it's running double check your sound settings in menu 3

I noticed that my 501 board has some odd looking piggy back chips in u18 and u 45. Do these have to be moved into the 504 board also? Are they just like an eprom that can be lifted off?

Those are your ram chips. If the new board doesn't have them then you'all need to move those over also

Congratulations on your first successful board swap. You'll be pretty happy with the 504, they're a good board

I just noticed that my progressive isn't working.........waaah! Is there something I need to do to turn it on?

The progressive is working but not like before. It comes on with $0.00 then scrolls No Data but once it initializes it stops scrolling. Is this normal? With the other 501 board it scrolled No Data all the time. I know it needs to be programmed but is this 'normal' before it is?

I'd like to say yes, but I have very little experience with progressive set ups. Program it and see what happens. I'm guessing it'll be fine though once you do

Dale and anyone else that feels like reading this.  A word of warning those ram chips you called piggy back if you bend a leg on one of them there is a real good chance when you try to straighten the leg it will break off. If you can find a replacement they cost about $20, ( THATS NEW PRICE ) Be carefull those legs are brittle.

Thanks Buzz, I was VERY careful and everything worked out.

My brother once broke the leg off an eprom so I cut the leg off another eprom that was no good and soldered it on (a little sloppy) and it worked. It's been a little over a year and his game is still running........just luck I think.

Dale  I too solder legs back on a regular eprom, but these " piggy back " chips are a different breed. The legs are round and made out of a real brittle metal and will not take very much rebending at all. And forget soldering, break a leg and they are history.  Bunker is the one that looked up the cost for new ones and 3 or 4 years ago they were close to 20 bucks.

sounds like you need to set up your prog in keychip mode to get your meter functional.  do you have a key31 or 45?

I got it going thanks. It just acted different when the 501 board was in and I hadn't Keyed it knowing I was going to change the board. I had just gotten a power supply to get it and looking for info on what numbers I needed. The 501 kept scrolling 'No Data" after it initialized and the 504 went blank after it initialized. I muddled through it and it popped right up after and worked just fine after getting key chipped.
