Hi and welcome to NLG. Are You flexible on Your choice of microcontroller ? Have a look at this thread where I used a 8 pin pic board that available on ebay.

Coded for IGT but should be easy to modify for Sigma. You could also consider using arduino since those are very widely available. Another option is to buy/build a sas device which is more complicated coding wise but allows You to do much more (assuming its SAS capable)
