Ok I'm new, just got my RWB X5 3r 2c s2000 up and working, Thank you members for all the help. I got the bug....my wife would kill me for asking this next question. I noticed I just have the mono sound which from what I read is normal. If I add the MMLII multimedia board and DSV00042, I can get stereo.

I noticed two different SIMMS for the DSV0042 8m and 16m besides the numbers whats the difference and what's a good price to pay, ebay has a MMLII for $20 and Simms for $25.

ps... are the Phantom 9" kits hard to find ?

Those prices are about average and there's no difference between the 8 and 16 meg other than data storage capabilities

frosty  I think your a little bit off, a DSV00042 is a sound simm. It's one of over a hundred made for S 2000. Some of those 100 are 8 MEG and some are 16 MEG. Some will work in your machine and some won't. A DSV00042 is kind of a generic simm that will work in most machines.  40 to 50 dollars is about the going rate for the pair, MM II and a simm. Make soue the MM II yo buy is for a simm and not a eprom.

Now with you machine off with the tips of your fingers pull the MPU out and look and see if you have a small board mounted above the main board. If you do then you already have a MM II sound board. Even better if it has a simm  pluged into it, all you will have to do is go into setup and turn the enhanced sounds on.

The below is what confused me about the 8m vs 16m, the sticker says DSV00042 8mg.

The description on the listing is wrong, read the sticker, it says DSV00024 not DSV00042  arrow arrow arrow

If you like I'll send you a pair of my old glasses.  The sticker says DSV00024.  Be carefull from buying from this guy, he may send you one of those PXL simms and they go in a Game King or a I Game, and they aren't even sound simms. (The simm is the same but the program in them is all wrong )

Did you look and see if you have a MM II sound board ??  If not I have some 42 simms and sound boards. Or I have one simm that plays a different tune with each spin.  I think I have a RW & B 5 X Pay machine in my trailer let me test the other sinn in it tomorrow and make sure it will work.

Rob You were correct it's like a 8 gallon bucket and a 16 gallon bucket.  You know R 273 isn't around today and I have to screw with someone.  The other day I was programing a I Game, that game uses (3)  16 MEG PXL simms. Now I don't know how much data a simm will hold but it must be around half a million bits,  The third simm for that game had 4 bits of data. Thats all that damn thing had. What a waste.

All good Buzz, had no idea the 42 only came in 16 meg. If I didn't have to work tonight I'd be drinking some water that's a whole lot more enjoyable than Alabama water though yes

Rob  Top picture bottom line,  that's everything that is programed into that simm.  Second picture is just a example of what most bytes in a  simms or eprom look like.  I tried to count how many lines of data is in a simm and if I remember Stat got involved and I don't remember but it's in the thousands of lines. You can bet your ass we got into a argument over it, we always do.

I do have a MM II sound card, I just picked it up..

I do need a SIMM so if yours works in the RWB 5X I'll like to buy it.

The burner won't even let you try.  It's like trying to pour 18 gallons of water into a 8 gallon bucket, it just won't fit. With eproms you can go the other way , if you have a 4 MEG file and a shortage of 4 MEG eproms you can with a hex editor program or your burner program, copy the files once and paste twice save as and then burn that file. I did do this same thing once with a simm and it programed OK but I think it still wouldn't work in the game. I've slept since then I don't remember.

There really is no advandage  that I know of to use a smaller simm. Both the 8 and 16 will cost about the same.

Just today I have a drawer with bad simme in it, my NFG drawer. I was kind of bored so I started testing them again. Most of them were still NFG, this was after cleaning the contacts with a eraser. I got a wild hair and started cleaning the contacts with a Q tip and acetone.  20 /25 percent of those simms came out good. The reasom I'm telling this is we always tell folks to use a eraser on their sound simms, well I'm here to tell you that's not good enough for a simm burner. If a ereser  isn't good enough for a burner I have to ask is it good enough for your machine ?? Are you getting 100 % of the sounds that is programed in that simm ?? Only the trained ear of Jason could tell you for sure.

I thought the 42 needed the larger SIMM because of additional files that the 24 doesn't have.  For example, some games will take a 42 or a 24.  On a game like Double Diamond Deluxe 3CM, either SIMM will work, and on the surface there isn't any difference in sounds.  The 24 has a quirky delayed response with nudges, whereas the 42 is much faster.  I like the 42 better with that game.

If I recall, the 42 will only work with a Double Diamond Haywire 3CM because it contains the haywire sounds.  I don't think the 24 does.  This might be a reason why the 42 requires a larger SIMM because it contains more files.

Sound quality wise, no difference that I can tell between the two.

Jason  This has nothing to do with what were talking about, but did you know the sound simm effects the reel action on a S 2000 Haywire machine.

It's been a long time and I forget a lot, but as I recall when the machine Haywires the reels don't shake back and forth and I don't think the reels spin backwards. You wouldn't think a sound simm would effect the reels but it does.

I sold the Round Top DD Haywire I had and now  I have a Round Top Double Jackpot Haywire that has a SB001000 base chip and a SS chip. I just traded the DSV00042 for a DSV00078, I must have played a 100 games ( I bet  haven't played 100 games on that machine in a year ) before it Haywired but a 78 got the job done just like the 42. The reels danced around and at least one spun backwards.

I didn't know using SB001000 with an SS reel prom would allow for multimedia sounds.  Good to know.

Rick  The only thing I've found you loose using a SB001000  is the ability to change the pay percentage.

Jason As you know some games IGT never made a SB chip for them. And some S 2000 games you can't find or they never made a SS chip for them.

Right...3CM Phantom of the Opera comes to mind.  Glass was made, but no S2000 SB.  Using the 1000 allows gameplay, but doesn't allow theme specific sounds from the Phantom SIMM.  Too bad.
