IGT bill acceptor, dead?

I have a IGT double diamond, after it sitting in the garage for some time, I was able to track down and replace the motherboard battery, reset the error 61, pushed up some coins so now the coins in/out work.  The final problem (I hope) is that the bill acceptor never pulls in or accepts bills.  The belts seem to be OK. In this video, it shows the noises it makes, seems to run motors in both directions several times and then stops:

No errors.  Hoping someone might have run into this before and can give me some guidance.  I'm unsure of the model, but a pic is attached as well.

You have an IGT S+ slant top slot machine (and I've moved this to the S+ section).  The bill validator transport isn't meshing correctly with the stacker box (the "cash can").  It should cycle once or twice when you first power it on, but not over and over and over again like it's doing in your video.  With the power on, start by making sure that the cash can is firmly seated in its proper place by removing it and rather forcefully pushing it back into place inside the machine.

Next, make sure that the red lever to the left of the head is fully up or down (I can't remember which and I'm not by my machines) so that the gears at the back of the transport are matching up with the gears in the cash can.  Here's the lever I'm talking about:



You may need to power cycle the machine to get the validator to attempt to re-mesh with the cash can (removing and replacing the stacker box ("cash can") may also trigger the validator to attempt to mesh up without having to power cycle).  If it's working correctly, you should only hear that loud cycling of the validator once or twice upon power-up, and the light on the bezel should light up and it should attempt to take a bill once the machine has fully booted up.  Most S+ slant tops have door switches in the small door that leads to the bill validator, but I'm guessing yours is disabled due to the fact that the machine still runs properly with coins.


(For what it's worth, the battery you replaced is on the MPU board -- the motherboard is a fixed board mounted on the back of the machine which the MPU board slides in to.  That doesn't make a difference for your bill validator issue, but I wanted to throw the correct terminology out there for ya.)

Thank you for the reply and corrections.  I went ahead and reseated that and turned the machine on/off a few times, but no luck.  Someone sent me a PM that when the 61 error happened because of a completely dead battery, it most likely reset the settings to enable an acceptor.  I may have overlooked it, but is there instructions on how to try checking that and turning it back on?

Is it still cycling over and over when you power it on like in the video you posted?  If so, it's still not meshing correctly with the cash can, and no settings will fix that.

If you don't have a SET chip, you should still be able to view the status as to whether or not the validator is enabled by going through the self test menus and seeing if 9 is set to 0 (off) or 1 (enabled).  If you can post the SP chip number that's in your machine (how do I find that?), we can give you more specific instructions as to how to find that option in the menu.


Did you adjust that red lever?  If you remove the cash can, look at the back of it (the part that goes furthest into the machine) and you'll see the gears in the top corner of the box.  Now, look into the opening in the machine where the cash can goes and you'll see where the gears from the transport stick through to mesh with the gears in the cash can.  Adjust the lever to the position where the gears are most visible to you (ie. sticking through the hole the most) so that they'll meet up with the gears in the cash can when you shove that in there.

The BV runs about 3-6 times and then stops, it doesn't continue to run.  I tried getting to the settings and I'm unsure if it is because of the version, but it seemed to skip 9 and reset.  But I've taken videos of what I see, so hopefully that will help.  I did pull the red level up this time, but experienced the same problems.

Open door.  Hit the reset button enough times (probably 2 times) so that a 0 is in the coins played window, a 2 is in the winer paid window.  Then turn the jackpot reset key enough times so that 9 shows up in the winner paid window.  Once you get there, the credit window will show either a 1 (enabled BV) or 0 (disabled BV).  If it is 0, you need a SET chip in order to enable it.  If you get a SET 15, about the only thing you can do with it is enable the BV.  Check that first, and if you need a SET chip, get one and post back when you have it.  If it shows a 1, then we have a hardware issue.

Thanks for the reply.  I get a "0" and "63", here is a video, starts out at a single "0" and you can probably hear what it shows by each press of the self check key and what it shows:

ok, stop where there is a 0 on the bottom and then a 5 and 0 on the top.  Turn the jackpot reset key and the 5 will eventually turn into a 9, the number next to the 9 will indicate 0 for disabled acceptor and a 1 for enabled.

Thank you, it has a "1".  Guess it's just went bad while being stored.  It's good to know I tried what I could.  Not worth paying for parts for the BV to check it anymore.
