I'm glad I have only one machine to mess up, I'm not sure how to hide spending anymore money from my wife.
I had my S2000 working great....untill I seen those flashing Bill labels and wanted one. I also had purchased some LED's love the look on my buttons...made the mistake of putting one in the .25 Denom lamp and fried a few traces on the circuit board, Buzz helped me get that fixed. Long story short.. In the process of getting ready to install the Flashing label I watched the video on youtube on how to do that and notice the guy had a LED in the lamp socket for the "Insert Bill/Ticket here" board...........then I went stupid and tried a LED on the board and got that funny smell from the board....

The BV (WBA 13) works and takes Bills/tickets, but the two lamps will not light up when the BV is ready to take bills.
Lamps are good and I did try another board still no light on the Insert.

Can anyone help with some troubleshooting

Same thing as what happens to the display board when you try an LED bulb.  I did exactly what you did, tried LED's in the B/V and fried the little board the lights mount on.  Had to get a replacement.  I also fried the traces on the display board when trying LED's. so do not feel bad, we are at equal status for frying things, LOL's  Lessons learned.

Why does it fry ??
If LEDs work in the buttons why not in the other denomination spots ?
Does the LED let through more current ?

I have had no issues and have replaced the bulbs with LEDs without issue on three machines over a year ago with no problems.
You do have to be aware that leds can only go in one way ( I check for the correct polarity by using a small battery to test the led before I install it).
The only way I think you can fry things is if you somehow short the leads together either in the socket or inside the plastic mount for the led itself.
The bottom line is be really careful this stuff is sensitive.

Frosty you are correct about the cash outlay. Me, too!, my wife thinks I've lost my mind with these slot things. In her words "bling my slot machine" The flashing bill panels I had to have also (they look really good),   along with sentry's, multi denom, coin compatibility, and progressive units for each. Not to mention conversion kits to change game options. You haven't spent anything yet  stir the pot / get cooking

All I can say is welcome to the addiction of NLG .

The sockets used for those parts will short out if the wedge bulb has both contacts running on both sides of the bulb.  Look at the original incandescent bulb and you will notice the contact is only on one side of the bulb for each conductor.  On some leds, each wire runs along both sides of the wedge, and this is what causes the boards to fry.

For the OP, you probably fried more than just the board where the bulbs go.  Follow the wires that come off the board and I'm sure you will find some burnt trace somewhere else, like maybe an I/O card.   I haven't traced those wires to see where they go, but based on my month or so of having an s2000, I would look at the cabinet I/O card in your door.

Rickhunter, your right i would have never thought to look at how the wires on the led wrap to both sides of the bulb. I could see how this would cause a direct short.  
Would i be able to check the connector going into the board to see if it has voltage on it? I would think if i get the correct voltage then the problem would point to just the board the lamps are on.

I thought you said you tried another board?  The S2000 is at my mother's house, so I can't actively troubleshoot it like I would like.  But I'm pretty sure it's just a senet device which would mean an IO card.  Pull out the IO cards and look for burned traces.  You could repair them or invest the $8 on a new one and hang the old one next to a note (DO NOT PUT LED BULBS ON ANYTHING BEFORE POSTING IT AT NLG).  frying pan frying pan frying pan Duh! I replaced the board that the lamps go in, I'm thinking I could pull the plug from the lamp board and check to seeif it has voltage for the board, I'm guessing 12 or 14 v for the s2000. Going to check later today.

Frosty  I hate to say I told you so, but here is a quote from a PM I sent you on Sept 1st.  I have some spare IO and BV bezel boards, just let me know which one you need.  (or both)

"You found the one of two places the LEDs will give you a problem. The other place is some of the bill valadator bezels. All most all the time if you will have any trouble is's with those twist off type holders. If you have backlit reels, don't bother with LEDs they look like crap."

Hey Buzz i was hoping you would not see this...but you did warn me i just thought the  video i saw with the leds would work, im guessing that guy had leds that did not have the leads go to both sides of the bulb. 

Can you tell me what voltage feeds the board for the two lamps on the board?

Glad you could use the bag.

After i troubleshoot some more i let you know if i need a board.

Rickhunter you are correct about the bulb holders regarding the wires can not be on both sides of the LED bulb or they will short out. This is true for the black plastic bulb holders. It is not true for the white ones. If you want to use LED bulbs I suggest you use the white holders in all locations. AND MOST IMPORTANT AS I STATED IN MY PREVIOUS POST, TEST WITH A BATTERY BEFORE YOU INSTALL. If they don't work with a battery test they will not work in the machine. (and saves on part frying in your machine lightning bolt)

Wasn't there a post recently about the wires on LED bulbs?  Scratch Head Something about wires going around both sides versus wires to all to one side or only one side or something like that???

Rick's post above talks about it.
What I am saying is you can get away with wires on both sides of the LED bulb if you use the white plastic bulb holders. Black ones will short out for sure. They are internally differant. Test test test before you install.

I'm not going to sat this is a good idea, but if your having doubts of a LED shorting out the wire contact that runs from one side of the base to the other side, cut that contact dead center  of the bottom of the wedge base. The wire contact will tend to get bent back but a small dab of Super Glue does wonders for that problem.
