Morning Y'all! (Here anyway) I've been spying on this forum for a few days now and found it VERY helpful! So I figured I'd come join ya. Yes I shall be making a donation shortly. I'm an integrated assemblies technician by day and an arcade addict by night.

I just picked up my first "slot" if you will from an auction, an IGT PE. Missing the entire coin acceptor assembly and had a dead battery, but for $20 I figured it's worth playing with. As the title states I have many issues  propeller Lack of patience being one of them. I got my replacement battery in ($10) and want to play with this thing a little. Do any of you fine people know if there is a pair of contacts in the coin harness that I might be able to short to get the Coin in error message away? I'd really appreciate the help, and I am MORE than willing to assist anyone on the forum with any board level repairs that may be needed. Thanks again for having this forum available to the world, and for all the help y'all offer to the addicts out there!  Hail Looking forward to playing with my slot..... lol

Coin-in error usually means your coin optic circuit is not working. Under the comparator, there's a pair of little pcb's that contain emitters and receivers, as coins pass through they block light in a sequence, if this sequence is broken, you will get a coin in error.  If they are blocked in some way you will get that error as well.  The first thing to try to to inspect to make sure the path between the emitter and receiver is clean.  Sometimes they get full of gunk and a good cleaning will fix it.  Other times, they are just bad and need to be replaced.

If you are competent in board level repairs, I direct you to the schematic drawings of your particular platform.  You can get them here:

A slot collector is like a coin hopper in a machine that never pays out.  they just keep on accumulating assets.

Hi and welcome to NLG.

If you want to use coins You can contact any of the vendors listed on NLG for a replacement unit. For now to clear the error You can build a coin optic bypass plug by following the instructions in this post - http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=2077.25. This is assuming You have a PE Upright - The pinout for a slant machine is a bit different.

Welcome to the site!  Is it a PE or a PE+?  A picture or two of the inside of the machine will help if you're not sure.

Rick: Thank you Very much for the prints! It helped with a few other small issues I was having.
TZ: I am too cheap this weak to purchase a new unit, I will most definitely go to the vendor section when I finally get a few bucks together, this last auction killed me. lol I do have an upright, and was able to get the error to go away after jumping with wire (thank you so very much!)
Knagl: It is a PE. Haven't gotten pictures yet though.

As I said I was able to get the error to go away, and from a few links from posts, thnx TZ! I was able to figure out the optical link from picout to Coin A-B-C. I am working on getting my PLC to trigger digital I/O's to fool the game into believing it is seeing coins. I however have noticed with all the other errors gone that I am only able to get one game out of the unit before it asks for more coins. even though it shows 5 coins in. I have also managed to notice that it constantly has the word "restart" at the bottom of the screen. Any ideas?  Thanks again for all your help thus far guys! you have been a godsend!

PLC control should be pretty easy - I see You already found the freeplay thread.  wave
Not to familiar with the PE - You may be able to change the credit type with a appropriate set chip. As far as the restart message is Your machine seeing main door closed ?

I try to do a little searching before making myself appear uninformed Wink not always though! lol The machine seems to be reacting to the door just fine, (Or the jumper in my case). No matter what series of events I attempt it, the word still lives there....  Silly Me!

A little more testing and alot more aspirin and I have managed to figure out the restart to go away, had the PLC lie enough that I got one game to run and payout. I have one more issue if y'all could be so kind. The game says 6 Coins in, but are not playable. if I get the PLC to lie to it again, It will go to 7 let me play one round, then back to six and act if there are zero coins or credits. How do I make this thing think it's brand new? Tongue I searched EBay for a "clear" chip as I have read may be necessary, but have only found PE+ set.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/IGT-PE-PE-Plus-Video-Clear-and-Set-chip-PE-Clr-and-Set038-/261291189623?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd62b2577

I am going to presume these will not work on my PE?

Sorry It looks like I was wrong - from the manual it looks like this platform does not need a clear/set chip. hopefully someone with more experience on this model can confirm

The manual for the PE is here - http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=3934.

Check what You maxbet is set to as per manual and check Your bet one nd max bet buttons in the IO test menu,

Typically a game is setup to take 5 coins (on the PE+ this is settable betwee 1 &100 coins.
Anything more gets rejected to the coin tray.
If you win the win goes to credits.
Assuming you have less then max bet then you can hit bet 1 followed by the deal button.
