There should be someone here to help. All I can think of is to go into diagnostics , then calibration.

Well,  I do not have the answer but just a OPINION as I have not done that either-Just gone from reel/viedo-vica-versa. Prob the vendors here know that have had thousands of alphas.  My thought is number1-more info and pics would be helpful.  number2- is this still the orginal 5-reel harness being used? that case jumpers may be needed etc.  Just need more info and pics of application would say a lot---Just again my OPINION.  Thanks

If he is still using the 5 reel harness, can you jumper the two unused plugs the way we do on S2000 machines?

No, The alpha spinning reel use a top mount for the reels with the harness built in. A three reel is different then the five reel but plugs right in with no jumpers. The bottom reel bracket has slots for 3, 4, 5 reels to line them up. The led light bar above the reels comes in 3,4 5 reel config but has no effect on the setup or play of the machine and will not stop setup if wrong one is used. The proper CF game card will determine number of reels the game is looking for and if they are not there the install will stop with reel failure message.

Working with fantillusion this is what appears to be the issue

He has changed over the hardware successfully, completed the setup but the reels keep spinning

If he uses 3 of his original reels the game comes up no issues and works fine

I have asked him to check the new reels for pushed in pins on the connector (very common) then to use 1 new reel 2 old reels and isolate which reel(s) is causing the problem

Although its possible that one of the reel boards or it's harnesses could be bad....here is another possibility.  This information is direct from one of the Bally Tech support managers.

"There is a known problem on the S9 and S9E stepper machines when converting from a 5R to 3R or vice versa.  We have nicknamed the problem 'Phantom Reels'.  Basically what is occurring after switching out hardware and you complete a full clear of its memory, the machine is still retaining memory on the USB controller board about it's previous setup, either 5R or 3R.  As a result, for example, when booting a converted 5R machine to a 3R setup, the game software is driving 3R information while the USB board is driving 5R information.  What happens is that some or all of the reels go haywire, jig jagging up and down or continuing to spin when they should have stopped after credit setup in the menu after a clear.  This continues even after you complete your entire setup in the menu or even trying to calibrate the reels under game diagnostics.  To fix the problem what you need to do is after your first full clear and complete setup, touch "return to game" and close the door.  Just allow the reels to do whatever they want and let the error codes pop up on screen.  After that, turn the machine completely off and do a full clear a second time.  Do a complete setup of all parameters a second time, and for a second time return to game.  The problem may be resolved at this time, but if not, repeat the process a third or fourth time if necessary."

I have personally run into this a few times and by following their instructions above the problem was resolved.  A couple of times the problem resolved by the third clear and I remember specifically that one time the problem fixed itself after the second clear.  I would say if the problem persists after a fourth clear though then you have other problems...bad reels, bad reel boards, shorted out reel harness, damage back plane, etc.

Good luck...

Jim

Yeah I saw that and glad it fixed the problem...I posted the information as I know others will refer to this post in the future for help and everyone needs to know about the Phantom Reels problem as a possible solution.
