Before you buy a optics board, try this, remove the chip/IC on the optics board and reinstall it to see if reseating it helps any.

Unbelievable it did help, but only after I did a another full RAM clear. I also added a shim on the optic board gap to push the quarter over the optics since it was a larger opening. So now for the next two issues. If I plug in the new or old bill validator, the validator runs constantly and I get an error 24. If I clear the ram and don't have the bill validator plugged in the coin comparator will come on and the machine will accept coins. The reels will spin and the game will play until the first wheel lands on a triple blazing 7. Then all wheels will run and I get an error code 40 and the machine locks up with the reels running constantly. I have to turn the game off, do another RAM clear and keep the bill validator unplugged to have the machine accept coins. Thoughts? Ideas? I don't have a key for an error code 40.

The reels may need recalibrated. See page 2-29 for calibration and test info. I had to do this to my machine.

The validator has to be set properly. See page 2-10   = JW3 - SW5 SW6. See if that helps.

On page 2-13, 2-14 are all your  settings set for your type of game/machine ? Option 27 set at 0001 ?

If the  calibration does not do it, try a different cash can.

I believe this is 2 sepertae problems?
One is reel calibration and the other is the BV.

You are doing a complete clear and not a Full,  correct?

Complete - Press and hold the PSEUDO COIN and
TEST buttons, then switch power ON. When the message
CH C displays in WIN PAID, release the PSEUDO COIN and
TEST buttons. The CH C message is followed by CL C.

DIP switch is set at -

JW3 sw5 - sw6 Bill Acceptor
ON ON 00 = No Acceptor
OFF ON 01 = GPT / JCM DBV,IBA,SRA
ON OFF 02 = JCM CBA

Reel calibration-
Note: Holding CHANGE when entering
Test #5 will initiate a reel calibration
and store the reel-stop center position
in SafeRAM.

OK. I replaced the DIP switch punch out chips with actual dip switches. I've attached pictures so you can see my settings and chips. I'll also post pictures of the bill validater and CPU board in the next post.

So, I can get the machine to work partially but only if I follow these steps.
I unplug the biill validater
I power off the machine and then power it back on holding the white button on the optics board until it completely is up.
I let go of the white button and press it 3 times to put in 3 credits.
I hit the spin button and the reels spin through their cycle landing on whatever is random.
I close the door and allow the machine to reset.
I put in 3 coins and it registers the coins as credits and hit the spin button.

As long as I do the exact steps above everything works as far as playing the game. However, if at anytime I have more than 3 credits and I put coins in the machine will not register them and then give me an error 24 or an error 20. I will then have to go through the entire process again to get back to being able to so called "Play" the machine.

So how do I get the machine to not have to do these steps and to be able to put in bills? I've done a complete RAM clear and have seen both the CL P and CL C on the screen so I know it's gone through. Thanks so much.
