Hello all. I received this Double Diamond machine in some horse trading. When I plug it in and switch it on the fluorescent bulbs light up. No other displays illuminate. The middle fuse on the left was blown. I replaced and with recommended fuse and it too blew. The other 2 fuses are fine. The coin comparator led is not lit up as well. Put a coin in and it returns to the tray. I have pulled some components to give you all an easier view of what im working with. #1 the Bill validator has been removed. #2 there are a group of wires beside the power supply behind the coin hopper that are just hanging. Im not sure if there are any missing components to keep this machine from running or its toasted. Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Again i pulled out the hopper, coin comparator and the board to the left that houses the battery.

Until you find the electrical short there's not much you can do. I don't think this has ever been posted, but after owning and driving a large truck for 50 years I have learned a few things. If a light bulb comes on ( lites up ) that is where you do not have a short. Think about it if a wire is shorted out the electricity will go to ground and not to the bulb.

Looking at one of your pictures, I don't know what that garbage of Gray wires located on the back wall is. I think it's some old player tracking wires. If you trace those wires out I think they will go to the upper box, if they are player tracking it's possible they were cut and one of them is shorting out. ( When I get a new machine I remove all the player tracking BS.) If they are not cut try disconnecting them and see if that helps.

Now if you have a pocket full on fuses you can unplug all connections to the power supply, with a new fuse plug in one connection at a time until you find the one that makes the fuse blow. On second thought first remove the MPU ( main board ) and then plug in one at a time the connections to the power supply. If the fuse blows the MPU is not at fault.

ok... so i jumped the fuse holder and put a 30 amp fuse in its place. tired of chasing a ghost! So it started to work . I left it on long enough to get some smoke. Cycled a couple quarters threw. all was good. I cyt it off and traced the smoke/heat. What would you suggest caused the board to short?

let me try another pic. Its of the board that is mounted to the back of the aluminum case. Not the one that slides out but the one that is screwed on. Thanks for the reply I will trace those wires down.

Well you accomplished two things, you FU a mother board and found out once you find the short the machine will play, guess all isn't lost. You also found out the Gray wires are not needed for the machine to work ( are not plugged in in the bottom ) disconnect them in the top box. I'm guessing you removed the mother board from the machine, if not you may find a stray coin wedged in behind it. I've never had one but have heard coins will also get inside the power supply.  Scratch Head Scratch Head

If you have any soldering skills, solder a piece of wire to jump over the burned trace on the mother board.

yeah I believe i can jump the tracer on the board. I've cleaned the entire thing out of coins from the get go just to eliminate that possibility. The board is completely out of the machine as well. I have removed all zip ties to look for burns or cuts and have come up with nothing.

Jumper I g it like that won't generally identify the problem, just the weak link k in the chain that supports the problem. Can you follow that trace and see if it leads you to the actual component causing the high amp draw? You could start with the earlier recommendation and unplug everything, then start plugging it back in till the fuse blows

the two points trace to power on one end from the power supply . the other end of the burn turns in to a light blue wire and the plug to that doesnt hook to anything.
