Atlantic city casinos

I have never been to Atlantic City.  I would like to plan a trip there and stay at one of the casinos (3-4 nights). I was hoping to get some input from any of the members here who frequent the strip or know about the casinos down there.

I typically enjoy the 3 reel 25 cent, 50 cent & $1 slots - s2000. I also play blackjack and some roulette.

Trump Taj Hotel is one hotel I'm considering.

AC is somewhere I'd like to go as well some time.  In my case it is actually cheaper to fly to vegas and stay there than atlantic city, simply because there is more competition to fly to Las Vegas, and the hotes have more competitive rates.  But during the summer, I'm planning a 2 week trip to Boston, and I might just drive there and stay a weekend.

we lived in nj went too ac too often they treated you like shit , when pa started it slot parlor ac took a big hit in biz, we get free  flights/rooms from harrahs and still won't go back , heading  to tunica ms  on tue place is nice people are nice and it,s free

Going to AC is like going to a low class Vegas. We were there about a month ago and it looks forlorn. Caesars looked shabby and the floor looked deserted on a Saturday night. They are hurting due to increased competition from other venues. Ruths Chris steakhouse was still excellent, but even with valet parking we still didn't feel safe walking around the streets. Driving out to the express way was a thrill since the GPS took us thru some rough neighborhoods. Go somewhere else if you want value and safety.

AC was on my short list, too, Danny. I've heard Borgata is the place to stay. But geez ... based on the feedback thus far, maybe I'm headed back to Vegas instead!

I agree, I am already looking into planning a Las Vegas trip now. Thanks for thr feedback... never heard of Borgata. Is it new?

Not brand new, opened in 2003 or 2004 if memory serves me correctly. They expanded in 2008 though. I've heard it's pretty upscale, but that's all I know about it. Revel is the newest casino - 2012 I think. It's a biggie.

Borgota has many gaudy glass chandeliers and a very nice pick up bar with many ladies dressed to go clubbing. I hear that Revelle is not doing well and is bleeding $$$.

I think Atlantic City is doomed.

Vegas is party central, warm weather, shopping, shows, dining.

You can always say that Vegas is an adult playground, but there is the pinball hall of fame, circus circus, Cirq shows, daytime magic shows, grand canyon, hoover dam, pools, etc. So you can sell this to your wife as a "family vacation".   Atlantic city on the other hand never had anything other than the casino - if you were not there for the gambling, why would you want to go to Jersey. The Jersey shore / boardwalk is fine for a month or two in the summer but you get what I am saying.

From a Casino perspective it always lacked the scale, and oppulance of Vegas but on the east coast it was good enough.

The establishment of casinos in the surrounding states has had a stark impact on AC revenues. Even those who are willing to travel, where would you rather go - Manhatten or Jersey ?

You summed up things perfectly, but I think this ^^ more than anything is what spells doom for AC. Every time I go to Foxwoods, the place is packed with buses from New York. AC needs to do something crazy and really break the mold if they intend on remaining relevant.
