Hello, I'm new to the whole video slot world. Just picked up a Williams  Reel Em In 550 machine. When I power up the machine I hear a ding sound then I get a message on the screen "Tilt!  Rom signature mismatch - please perform ram clear"

What do I need to do to get this thing working so I can play!

You need to get a clear chip, probably someone had a different game installed before you bought it, and just replaced the chips and didn't do a clear procedure like you are supposed to.  Put a WTB ad in our classified section and I'm sure you will get a dealer or another member who can sell you one.  You need to mention if your machine is coin based or if it has a ticket printer.

It looks like the machine takes coins and bills. Which chip do I replace?

You don't replace the chips, if you have a good set.  Basically the procedure is you replace XU3 with the clear chip and go through the clear procedure.  Then you power off, put back the original XU3 and the game should boot with no issues.

Yes you will need that key eventually.  It is used for various things.  If there's a handpay situation (jackpot over $1,200) you need to turn that key to get rid of credits.  It is also used to bring up the attendant menu and various other things during the setup process.

jpiny     NLG Welcome

The key switch your talking about is just a low voltage momentary on switch. In a pinch you can remove the switch from the machine, stick the wires out the hole and when you need to turn the switch just touch the two wires together. Or install a push botton in place of the key switch. Or PM me your address and I'll send you a key and a clear chip.
