Noisy reels and other concerns

Well I got the coin mech in, and it works just great. Put new reels in to see if they would be quieter, they are, but they still make a lot of noise? 
I tried the tape fix, and it helped, but seeing some post on here where guys say their S+ is almost silent, makes me wonder just how much noise these things are supposed to make!
Anybody got other suggestions on how to quiet these things down? There is enough of a vibration when they spin, that you can feel it on the outside of the cabinet. Especially on the left side.

I noticed there seems to be a normal gap between where the two basket halves snap together.Would maybe some zip ties to just snug these up maybe kill the speaker effect of the reel strips?

Also, is it normal for the motors to be quite warm even when the machine is just sitting idle?

I tuned up a few reels two days ago...First, remove the baskets and run the motors in their tray spots without the baskets.
That will tell you if it's either the motors OR the reels that are bad.
After you do that, (If the motors are quiet by themselves) split the reels apart and squirt a verythin layer of silicone between the halves...if you're scared about using silcone gel, then tape one side of the baskets with vinyl electrical tape in the form of an X.  
That will cushion the squeaking and looseness between the reels.
Then tighten up the basket sprockets with the smallest  plastic tie wraps you can find.
If the motors are quiet when you tested them alone, then they should be still quiet after you rework the baskets.

If the motors are noisy by themselves....there's nothing that you can do except replace the bearings inside them...
unless you have a full array of small motor auto mechanic tools and the correct sized bearings, that's just not an easy job to do.
Plus, the motor bearings may be so worn that new bearings wouldn't work anyways.
I can only imagine how worn out it must be inside them things near the ends of the main shaft where they're spinning against the bearings..

Shopping around for some reel stepping motors and replacing them entirely may cost more than just going out and buying some used reels on fleapay.
It's really a crapshoot whether you get noisy or quiet reels.

Finally, it's really warm inside a slot machine...cooling them is very easy by picking up a couple of computer fans and installing them inside to move the hot air out...there's a million ways to do this....just make sure the hot air is going out! lol

The reels I put in today, was a whole new set of used reels bought from a vendor on here. they are quieter. But still the number one reel position is the most noisy,regardless of which one I put in.
Whats the best way to get the friction nut off of the motor shaft?

I use one of those pointy steel picks with bent ends to get under them and pop them off.
Be careful though, I've stuck them into the ends of my fingers a couple times...
I think you can get them at True Value hardware stores.
There's two kinds...one is straight w/ a 90 degree bend...
The other is completely hooked w/ the 45 degree bend I use to get under the reel retainer rings.

Here's a quick fix trick for noisy reels.  Take a 5/16 nut driver/socket...place the reel assmbly down on solid surface (right side down)... place the nut driver on the hub and give it a whack with a small hammer...(don't hit it like you're driving nails !)  Believe it or not it works to quiet the reels most of the time.  The other issue you may be running into...noisy reels...reel chatter.... are IC reel drivers on the board...  I believe they're near the game board transformer.  (positions  U1 U2  U10 U11 ?)  There's  4 of them, since IGT configured board for 4 reel slots.... anyway...a bad IC, tired IC, or solder issue will cause reel motor chatter/vibrations... mostly noticeable when reels are "at rest"...they will just vibrate and hum.  Anyway...  Good Luck.
