Can you tell me what SP chip you have installed?
I will be able to tell you how to change the max credits.

Here's a link to determine what chips you have...>>>

okay cool! You've got the SP733 chip installed in there!
Below is a link to the PSR for that particular chip.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask!
There are many S+ owners here that will be glad to help you get your machine running the way you want it to!  yes

You're welcome! We always try to help our fellow members in any way we can!

This is a link to enable your DBV utilising the SET015 chip...>>>

http://www.newlifegames.net/spset/dbv.htm

You don't have to use the Clear chip.  no
It's rarely needed actually.
Sometimes the MPU locks up in a [61-1] "Loop" and the Clear chip resets the CMOS.
Keep in mind, whenever you use a Clear chip, the resets the entire machine back to factory conditions with zero credits in the Accounting mode.
It also disables the DBV and you'll have to use the SET015 chip to get it going again!

Save this Clear chip for rare conditions and always start a new post here,
should you decide to use it - to determine whether it's needed or not.

You can only have 1 denomination in the S+.  Some people like using small denoms, as it is easier to put credits on your machine.  Some people like using big denoms because they are "winning" more.  I like to stick to whatever coin size I'm using in the hopper.  Keep in mind just because you have quarters on your hopper doesn't mean your machine's denomination has to be quarters. The slot doesn't really know what the value of the coin it accepts or dispenses is beyond what you say it is in the denomination setup with the set chip.  For the most part to avoid confusion, you should set your denom equal to your coin value, but there's nothing from preventing you to do it as you please.  The reason why people choose smaller denoms, like pennies, is because you insert a dollar and you get 100 credits to play with, so less wear and tear on your DBV.

Also if you play with Pennys there is less shrinkage.... at $3.75 for a latte your kid is not going to be filling his pockets vs 15 quarters....
