Okay, I'm totally lost, looked up several different posts and I STILL can't get my act together on this stupid machine Duh! Duh! Duh! I apologize for asking the same questions that have been repeated over and over again frying pan frying pan frying pan I DO realize that these same questions have been asked and answered, guess I'm just plain dense when it comes to putting everything in terms a lame person, such as myself, to understand and follow through step by step. Let me lay out what I have and what I want as an end result. I have a 5 reel, 9 line Triple Double Butterfly 7s machine. Set up at 180 coins, $.01 with an LED multi-denom available, but not functioning(has a $.01 ledger over the LED, those stupid legacy sounds and a top box Gen 2 printer. The board that came with it has the following: Simm SNDF DSV00042 16mg, Version chip VS011GX0, Stepper Game 1&2 SG000363 and stepper Base SB10928. First problem is the printer NOT printing at cashout. I changed out the printer with a known good printer as the one that came with it(a Gen 1)was not responding to test mode. Printer is enabled, responds to tests, prints ticket, advances ticket, but won't print when cashout is pressed. Next is the sound options-hate the legacy sound (boring), but does not allow any changes in menu(shows enhanced, but no way to access any other sounds).
Now to where I want to get to. A machine that functions completely, including the printer, the multi-denom touch pad to function with a $.05/$.10/$.25/$.25 and enhanced sounds. I was going to use a Key 17 chip and see if that will access what I'm looking for and resets the printer and touch pad functions, but unsure if I need to do a clear chip first or a key 31 instead of the 17. Which one do I use? Seems that there are some posts that say just a 17 and others say a 31 Scratch Head Scratch Head. I did find the post with directions on how to use the 17, that much I got, but to use it and get the correct set-up.....in comes the dumbness. I also know that the Version chip with the 0 on the end is a set denom and probably the reason the touch pad is not enabled, but would this also effect the sound and printer functions?
Now to through in a curve ball. I have another board that has the following set-up: Version VS011GX1, Game 1 & 2 SG000598 and base chip Triple Double Butterfly 7s SB100928 and SNDF DSV00042  16mg. I'm going to change out the boards and see what happens, as I know the 2nd board is set up for a 5 reel, 9 line game. Enter the personal challenge. I just want to try and get the 1st board to work correctly and learn HOW to make it function properly. I would greatly appreciate it if anybody can provide information on how to get this damn machine up and running properly.  Silly Me! Silly Me! Silly Me! Thanks in advance and sorry for taking up so much space on probably a simple problem.

Boy you wrote a book didn't you.  For multi denom you do need a VS011GX1, just take it off the second board and put it on the board your wanting to make sure it  works.

I think it was Capt Happy that came up with the idea that the more credits you need for a game the worse the sounds are. You have a SB100928 that is 180 credits, from what I've read change the base chip to a SB100926  45 credits or a SB100929  90 credits and the sounds are suppose to improve. ( I have both of those chips if you want I can send them to you for a test )

Now there are some folks that will not agree with this but the only use I've found for a Key 17 is if you can get enough of them you can paint little white dots on the back of them and play Domino's. Just use your key 31 and a Clear 97 and you will be OK  Key 31 and key 17  I would think you would use the same directions, I'm not sure because I don't use a 17.
Right now I do have a what was a 3 reel machine I am changing to a 5 reel Triple Double Butter Fly Sevens. It's got the wrong reel tray, the wrong reel glass, and a set of LED back lit reels on a tray that they don't fit on, but the game does play and I have a SB100928 base chip, a set of SG000363 game chips and a VS011GX1 version chip. So I know that combination of chips will work.

I'm not even going to go into the printer problem right now. Get everything else working as you like and then address the printer

Thanks Buzz applause Naw.....it was just a short novel. Written for those who want a good chuckle. Guess I should look for a book called "IGT Slots for Dummies".  Just wanted to get all the info in one post while it was still all straight in my head and with my brain, I'm lucky to get that put into words.  I'll thankfully take you up on your offer and borrow those chips for a test run, I appreciate it. Just out of curiosity, what the hell are Key 17 chips good for, other than Dominos? Huh, now I want a pizza....nevermind. Why do they even exist, the chips, not the pizza? I will change out the version chip and see what happens. I'll have to ask my buddy, jimise, if I can borrow his Key 31 and see if he has a Clear 97. Guess being the owner of two S2000s, I'll have to obtain a set for future problems. Thanks for your help Buzz. I'll PM you with address info.

Chris You should have said something in the PM about not having a clear and key chip, I'll put one of each in the package tomorrow.

I'm not going to say a Key 17 will not key your machine, I don't know. I know I tried a 17 one time and it would not work and a Key 31 did, so from that day forward the only key chip I use on a S 2000 is a Key 31.

Now there probably no reason for you to have to do a clear on this machine, the rule of thumb is. The accounting denom can not be higher than the lowest denom you want to play. ( example if you set the accounting denom at 5 cents, you will not be allowed to set the players denom at a penny ) OK so when you get a new machine and do a clear, always set the accounting denom at a penny and you can't go wrong. ( The only time on a S 2000 you need to do a clear is when changing the accounting denom )

Not sure but he may need to clear when he changes the version chip.

No need to clear when changing Game, Base, Version or SS (S+ Reel chip)
Only time I would clear is if I replace the Motherboard or the EEPROM on the motherboard.

Buzz,
Got the chips today, thanks again, appreciate it applause applause. Unfortunately I won't be able to get to install them until tomorrow night. I did borrow jimise chips to get my feet wet, but all did not go so well. Think I missed a few steps and not sure the chips installed are the right ones for the game. The installation instructions were based on a 3 reel game without multidenom touch panel. I'll just use the chips you sent me and try to clear and key the game again. Hopefully I won't screw anything up, again. I'm sure I'll eventually figure it out. Just have to go step by step and understand what it is I'm changing. I know most folks here probably could do the clear and key in their sleep(or in 10minutes or less), but I'm just over cautious and afraid of making a mistake, thus letting the smoke out Burning Resistor. Thanks again for the chips and the help.

One step at a time Chris, one step at a time...if you have to Clear and Key it 10 times, I guarantee you, you WILL remember each setting even better each time.  yes
