Not sure what the hard click is you hear but with a little time you can pull the handle mech off and check the ratchet, pawl and springs

It's not only hear, it's feel too.  It's a little harder to pull at the bottom of the pull.

Can you post a video of this strange clicking sound?
Maybe some close up pics of the handle mech while the handle is in different positions?
Perhaps, we can spot something that's out of whack?
Have you tried to take apart the handle mech to see what's wrong?

Thank you for willingness to help out but unfortunately I don't have a video camera.  I was hoping it was a common problem so I had an idea on what to look for when I took it apart.  I guess the next step is to take it apart and hope the problem is obvious.  Thanks again.

Do you have more than one machine to compare it to as a point of reference? There is an extra bit of resistance at the bottom of the handle pull that is normal on an S+, and the last bit also makes a louder sound than the rest of the ratchets on the way down. It is more noticeable if you pull the handle slowly. This is by design, so it's important to be sure that your situation is beyond the norm before taking it all apart.
