Hey Buzz, remember, this is a slant top, the display is on the right side that you're referring to.  Can you press the self test button and does it show numbers in the display?

Wayne  I don't know the ans. to this, how dead does the MPU battery have to get before it stops giving a error code?  In reading this thread I don't think the battery has been checked yet!  but the wheels are stiff with power on.  I think I just shot down my own idea.

Tbone      Is there a cash can installed below the BV ( bill validator )??? Buzz

Yup there is one. It is a gray box and when I take it out the bottom comes open and there are 3 spring looking things in there. (I guess that's what hold the cash) (Too bad it's not full of dollar bills..lol!!)

Buzz,
just saw this question,If the battery was removed the error would still come up.

I spoke with Troy,  test button or key dont make anything display, looks like a power issue, troubleshooting guide says check wiring, and if o.k., then replace mpu board or motherboard.

Thanks,

Thanks for helping me and showing me how to take the belly off the front too...Much easier to work on now.
I am looking to see if I can find any lose wires and if that don't work, I guess I will go buy a V meter. (Not sure what wires to test it to..lol!) I hope it not shocking..lol!

Thanks!
Troy

Oh I am going to take a picture of it and messgae it to you soon.

Thank you Wayne!
I took the plug out of J11 and looked to see if all the wires were in wire prongs/ clamps and they were. I plugged it back into the motherboard and it did not fix the problem.

I bet you are right, I bet it might need a new PSU or motherboard. (I don't see the red light on, the MPU board)

I will keep tinkering with it.
Thanks a million guys!!

I can't seem to find the slant top pinout voltage for that connector.  If you get a meter, you can check them and if someone else has a slant they could let you know what they should be.  Did you check the wires to the display as Buzz had said?

Thanks,

I am still playing around with this slot and still no luck getting it to work.
I have Robin (NLG member) coming over tomorrow to help take a look at it.
I also have an IGT tech from YGI International Corporation in Arlington, Texas. He said he went to school for it, but he asked me if the reel version on this IGT had the same lay-out as the video version. He knows how to work on the video ones. Don't the video and reel versions have a motherboard and a MPU board?
The good thing is he is only going to charge me a few bucks for gas.

Wishing for luck! Thanks

Well Robin (NLG member) Just left and he worked on it for hours with no luck.
I just don't know what the problem could be. We tested and replaced  a handful of things and still could not get it up and running.

Thanks Robin for coming over and trying to get me up and running!
Thanks to all the NLG members for helping me too.
I don't know what more to try, maybe new motherboard or MPU board, but they are getting power to them too..I don't know..I am going loony..Ha!

I would suspect the Main (mpu) board at this point.  These are not expensive.

Thanks and good luck,

Could a glitch in the DBV be causing the hangup?  Its a 145.  When we power it up, the dbv runs through what seems like a shorter startup.. The bezel flashes on power up, then a quick flash after the cycle,
but does not remain lit.  We checked  the MPU board battery, 3.6 volts. A quick overlook showed no no burned components, and the transformer was nice and warm, indicating power.
We did not check the transformer voltage however.  All 3 reels have power, but dont spin on power up and no matter what we tried we could not get the test button to make the machine do anything.
Swapped out door optics, just in case, and no change.
You do have to stand on your head to work in these things. frying pan

It was good of you to go over and help.  K+ to you.
the test button would work ig the dbv wasn't.  you could remove it if you want. With the display, audit switch, test switch, and no initial spin, I believe it's time to try a main board.

Thanks,
Wayne

Well the IGT tech guy called and said he would not make it over till Friday around 3:00.
Do any of you guys have a Motherboard and MPU, with chips for sale for cheap (Money is tight right now)
I think I should just change it all out and hope that is the problem.

Like always, thanks for the help!

I'm about 95% sure a S+ board fits both slant top and upright. Different tray but same board,      Buzz

Since you mentioned the tray are you sure the board isn't grounding out against the tray? Tried taking the tray off and putting it back on.. just a thought

Nope no luck.
I took it out of the tray and put it in the slot.
I put it back in the tray and tried it too, still no luck.
I think the MPU board is dead. The little red led on the MPU board did not even lite up.
I guess I need a new board.
Has anyone ever had this problem where the MPU board was bad and the  machine would not show an error or would the LCD still show an error if the MPU or motherboard was bad?

Thanks

you should get a clear chip and set chip also, you will end up needing them sooner or later.

I wonder if Buckeye would give me a better price on a
Motherboard
MPU + chips
Clear chips

or who has a good price for this?
I rather have a 3 reel 9 line Triple Diamond kit for S+
with the MPU and clear chips, but I am broke right now.

Tbone, thats Tophat, one of our vendor sponsors. I would shoot him an email and inquire. He may even have other items that are not listed that he may sell to you outright. It can't hurt to ask!

I was looking at the IGT again today and wanted to know, If you took your MPU board out of your IGT S+ and turned it on, what error do you get? Or will it show no error like mine?
Also the coin comparitor has a little red light on it, that does not come on when powered up. The hopper does not sound like it is coming on either.
Will it do that if the MPU board is bad?
I was thinking if them two parts are not getting power, I wonder if it just needs a whole new power supply.

Thanks Guys!
