The Eprom I have is labeled: DBV-145-SH ID-044P USA V3.20-04 (3DDB)

This acceptor doesn't seem to like the newest 100, colored $20.

What do I need?

Newest Software made is for the NG 10, and you would have to change the head to a DBV-200 SH, No new 5 update is available, You can go to the Colored 20 with the 145 but you must insert face up and top of head to right of machine (1 way acceptance)

There is a chip for IDO44 for the 145 that will take the new money, it is not however a JCM chip it is a rewrite of thier software I believe, not sure who did it, and it may involve some sort of copyright violations if one were to be caught with it. I have run across some of these down here in Texas. let me know if you are interested.

When you are looking for the latest software, try the JCM web site. http://www.jcm-american.com/products/software.asp Use the drop down menus and fill in as much or as little as you want. The more you fill in the more it narrows your selection. This will list all versions ever written for your choices. Then click on the "Software" to the right, to pull up the data sheet. That will list all the changes, switch configurations and so on.
Hope this helps. Now that I have found this board, I will be checking for questions on JCM products. I am the Technical Services Supervisor here, which means I handle the Training and Tech Writing Departments. If you have any questions, just let me know

Welcome Jack  Hay there has been alot of questions about The JCM 200 stealing bills and giving no credits but go to another machine with same head and it will give you credits if you answer this please go real slow this happens with the 145 head also thanks in advance Scratch Head Help

Usually when the bill gets stacked and no credits are given, it is communication failure of some type. One that I am very familiar with is the Bally 5500. To understand why this happens lets take a quick lesson in the communication between a validator and the host machine. When the bill is drawn into the validator and can be identified, the validator sends a 'Denom' signal. A two digit Hex code to identify the bill. The host checks to be sure that denomination is enabled for the machine and the credits will not exceed the max credit setting. The machine then sends a signal to the validator to 'Stack'  the bill. The validator moves the bill to the cash box and once the pusher mechanism has moved the bill out of the bill path into the box, the validator issues a 'Vend Valid' to the machine. The machine responds with an acknowledge 'ACK' command and issues credits. If any one of the commands beyond the 'Stack ' command is missed there will be no credits issued. With the Bally 5500 there is a DUART chip that handled the communication to the peripherals, validator, hopper, player tracking, progressive, ect... If components are hot swapped, and that is common practice in casinos, you run the risk of small voltage spikes hitting the DUART. Over time these will damage the chip and you wind up missing some of these comands to peripherals. If this is a credit to player tracking, the customer probably won't notice. If the progressive doesn't increment, no problem. But if the machine misses the 'Vend Valid' command, no credits are issued. The machine thinks the validator hasn't stacked the bill yet. We used to open and close the main door. When the validator resets it resends the 'Vend Valid because it hasn't received a response yet. Sometimes this will trigger the credits to issue. Fortunately there is an easy to tell if this is the problem. Because the validator issued the 'Vend Valid' and got no response, (ACK) from the machine, it hasn't reset. The validator will not take another bill until it gets this ACK. If the validator stacks a bill but the machine doesn't issue credits, try to insert another bill. If the validator won't attempt to accept the note, you probably have a bad DUART. This is what is happening when the used to say the validator went "to sleep". some one didn't get the credits from a bill, but just walked away and the validator acts like it isn't communicating .

Thanks Jack  now I feel I can trace the problem The thing that i could not understand I was taking a validator and board from a working machine and having the same problem so know i can look at the transport and see if it is giving the signal that the bill was stacked. Another thing that was not understandable was I tried all good heads and they took and stacked the bills no credits but I took an older 200 flash type with 2.20 and it worked fine  i will try to do what you said        Thanks again  applause applause applause

Paul, you may also check that the software is ID 044/45P and see how the dip switches are set, on the 145 you tried was D/SW 8 on?

I will check sofware. What i have is 2 bally 5500 side by side machine 1 and 2    the 1  is giving me the trouble both were working then the  1  would not give credits so i took out the validator and the board from the working 2  machine cleared it and same thing no credits Put everything back in 2  machine and all worked. still have 1 machine taking bills and no credits till i tried that 200 flash head and it worked. I will look at the 044/045p and make sure it is that I think my bianarys are just marked 044/045 will let you know what i find out does this make sence to you           Thanks Again

Hey there Paul,
      If you have an eprom burner with read and edit capability you can look "inside" the eprom
and in the comments column it will give you the the hardware and software versions that the eprom
was made for. I have found this to be true for most JCM eproms.
      First insert the eprom in the burner, then read it..........
      Next click on edit
      On the right hand side of the screen you will notice a comments column.
      Use the up and down arrows to scroll down slowly and you should see the hardware and software version of the chip.
      Do NOT change anything in the columns to the left as this is the actual data that makes the eprom work.

Hey there,
      Not all manufacturers use the comments column, and those that do many times the stuff in that column is code
notations etc. Two that do are IGT and JCM

once the EPROM is read into your computer's buffer,
usually there is a "buffer editor" option in the EPROM
programmers software. It shows both Hex and ASCII
versions of the buffer. The version number and JCM
type (which head the EPROM is for) is easily seen in
the ASCII dump of the EPROM.  Remember SG or SH
is the Bally/Wms software, SS is the IGT software.
