bally 873-c coin comparator or coil behind comparitor problem

First i know very little about these as far as working on them. Understand them but rarely work on any. first bally 873. The machine first wasnt accepting any nickels but I did an inspection of everything visually and found a few switches out of wack. put it back together and it seemed to work. put a nickel in and it would register the coin accepted and the coil was working cuz you could feel resistance when touching the plate it moves. after about the fifth coin it stopped accepting any nickels again and you could tell coil seems dead. unplug it, checked switches, then after a few tries the coil would activate and work for a few coins and quit. seems to be a pattern to the working and not working but dont have a clue due to lack of background on these. Could it be something else not occuring that needs to take place before coil engages.  cuz when it works it holdss strong. anybody that could point me in the right direction would be appreciated very much. Is there a manual for these and which one would be best if more than one out there. Also do these machines have any reset switches or like that? hELP!!!!  HERE are some pics of the machine.

The coin lockout coil is controlled through a string of contacts all over the machine, and one of them is intermittent and needs cleaning. Here's a chart so you know what contacts to look at.
