I picked up an old Bally 1088 and came across something I've not seen before.  Check out the hopper cover.  I first though it was home made by the looks of the metal straps, but seeing the nice spot welds and nice squared angles of the little "chimney" I began to wonder.  Any ideas?

I have seen those metal covers numerous times - what purpose they served? the strip was added by someone.  I presume there were complaints by casinos of the hoppers overflowing with coins (when the divertor cherry switch failed) and coins would spill out on the payout relay causing shorts and runaway hoppers - or overflow onto the safety timer - transformer etc and BANG.  The chimney was to insure that coins entered would find their way thru the new cover.  I have thrown alot of those covers away.

Very interesting.  It would be nice to keep it but for us home casino managers it makes it impossible to dip into the "honey jar" for more coins.   money  K's Foxs.
