Has anyone had one of these and do they give you any problems flipping the cards?

I have seen a picture of a unit that looked similar but it was one of the first poker machines.
It certainly had no video monitor on it.

This is an interesting unit to me. Why have both ?

Any manufacuter tag ?

It was made by Atronic. The one next to it is very similar but without the video screen.

I think you misunderstood. I don't have a video of it working. I was saying that the machine next to it does not have a video monitor above. It just has the flipping cards.

Not that I'm a slot expert or anything, but I know about this. It's an Atronic machine, made in Austria. This model was never distributed in the US - I don't even know if it went into production - but I know at least one of them was given away by Atronic US as a prize in a competition two or three years ago. I've seen the prize machine show up at least once on Ebay.

The card units themselves are a German invention, developed in the 1980s by Stella. Two kinds were made, one where the cards split horizontally as shown, and another where they split vertically down the middle. The vertical split cards were a failure as they didn't flip properly and were prone to breaking the tabs and falling out. There was at least one European model made in those days, by Stella, for which I have a photocopy of a flyer. Games of Nevada produced a game in the US, for which I submit a very poor quality picture of Mickey Wichinsky standing beside the machine at a 1980s gaming show. I know there is at least one of theses Games machines in storage somewhere, and I hope one day to get my hands on it and get it working again.

Meantime I managed to get my hands on some of the card units, and last Christmas I put together a little poker machine demo, as shown here -

We'll the reason I originally posted this question a few weeks ago was because I found 2 of these machines for $150 each. I thought they were pretty cool but was kinda worried that the card flipping might not be reliable. I have since spent my toy buget on some other machines. I can try find the guys number if anyone is interested.

I would be interested, if it's near enough that it doesn't cost $1000 shipping.

The card flipping is quite reliable. I think the reason they didn't catch on as a casino game is that they're so much slower than a video. You have to drive each deck to the right card and that takes an average of about a second, five for the full deal, so they don't play as many hands per hour and don't earn enough.

I have to say that my Atronic Flip card poker machine is one of my prize machines.  I was told about 25 came from Foxwoods Casino in Conneticut??  I was also told that the prevention of not being able to get 5 of a kind even though there are 5 - 52 card decks in the machine was in question with the Conneticut Gaming Commission.  I do not know if this detail is correct, but was told by liable resources.  Either way the only dilema I have with this machine is updating the Bill Validator, it has a GPT bill acceptor with a interesting cash box set up.  I have many variations of Slots and I have to say the Atronic Poker is the most interesting and very easy to maintain.

Current VP machines in Foxwoods and MGM Grand in CT a re the fastest I have ever seen. All the cards are dealt within a second, way too fast. But I understand, the faster they go, the faster you lose, and the faster the casino has turnover and makes money faster.
