Is it really that important?  Why does this product exist?

Looks like garbage. First off, your online gaming experience is dictated largely by your intenet connection. Second would be your PC. I've never heard of a bottleneck within a nic, but anythings possible I suppose...

It's BS... get a 64 bit NIC if you want serious gig ethernet performance.

The only place you'd see ANY benefit from that card is if you were playing in a LAN party setting... AND if the LAN party was using all gigabit switches for connectivity.

Being a network guy I was just blown away at the price for a SINGLE PORT GIGABIT card, so what if it has it's own processor, it's 1 PORT and meant for on-line gaming?  Invest on a better video card for that much money, or even a WD Raptor, but an ethernet card?  I don't see what competitive advantage you would get with it.

There are so many other bottle necks before the PC NIC.

1. Your connection to the internet is certainly a limiting factor but if the Ethernet back end of the modem is proably not gig-a-bit or even high performance. I am sure faster LAN side modems exist but your ISP is not going to be buying these.
2. The next limitation is the LAN switch. The basic 10/100/1000 cisco switch does not do true sustained gig switching with the exception of the uplink ports. You need to go into a higher end series to get the sustained through put (nominally in the $3k range).
3. The standard PC bus cannot generate high enough output to drive a ethernet card at a GIG. This is why PCs have the AGP bus for video cards as PCI didn't push enough bits. The suggestion to go to a 64bit interface is a good one but the number of People that have a PC worth 6K are few and far between.

Yes I have been trying to do some research on networks cards and so on but i cant find a forum to help so ill post here.

We have a 2gig dsl connection at my house but i dont think we are getting maximum use because our cards are 10/100mbps and im sure the router is the same. My ? is do i need to upgrade all this hardware for maximum use? And what is my best line of attack to get it a full throttle?

I've never heard of 2GBit DSL service, didn't think that was possible.  You'd need an OC48 circuit (2.4 Gbit) in order to cover the 2GBit range.  Most home folks cannot afford an OC48 circuit unless your name is Carlos Slim.

If you are lucky enough to have VDSL you can have up to 52Mbits, but that's not even close to your 2Gbit service.

I agree. Never heard of DSL getting anywhere near that speed.

2 GB DSL???  No such animal!  ttth
Maybe 2 Megabits per second.  yes  Even Verizon's  FIOS (fiber-optic) top plan is capped at 30 Megabits per second!  propeller

It's gotta be 2Mbps... which your 10/100 card will handle fine.

I'm on FIOS and I have the 15Mb down / 2Mb up speed. 2Gbps would be VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY expensive.
