I am kinda new to the s2000's.  I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the expansion slot on a s2000 board are for and what they will do for a game.  It appears that it holds a RAM card.  I see two of these on my board (Empty)  These slots are upright, meaning you would place a RAM card or whatever in the upright position and they appear to lock in.  Will they make your game faster or???  Thanks

Also I see a base chip, 2 game chips and a version chip.  Can anyone tell me what each chip does?  Still learining!!!

hedgee, the slots I believe you are talking about are for the Multi Media sound board. These boards come in an eprom or Simm version depending on the game and platform due to the Igame/Game King using the same sound board. These sound boards will let you use the stereo sounds of the generic Simms or dedicated theme Simms for particular games.

I think I know where the multi media slots are.  These other slots are more toward the game chips and have a spring type locking mechanizm to hold the card into it.

Well i the pic I attached shows where the MMLB II sound board is attached in the areas circled in yellow. The slots circled in red are SIMM slots and as you can see there is a card attached to one of those slots on the sound board at the top. On the S2000, I have not come across any SIMMs used except for the sound. The SIMMs used are proprietary in nature and standard computer memory will not work. Maybe someone else has run across SIMM usage in the S2000 other than the sound and will add some info!

I have recently tried bidding on a multimedia board for my S2000...
the bidding ran up to over $40...and that was just for the board...
needless to say, I dropped out of the bidding war.... Tongue Out

Meanwhile, another auction had a Buy-It-Now price of $80 for
the whole MPU board included with a multimedia board , a SIMM sound board AND packed with game & version chips!

The SIMM slots were never used for any S2000 game that I know of (not sound SIMM on the MML2).    I guess they had some ideas at one point and never went forward with them.

O.K., this is from the manual:
" 3 SIMM Connectors (single inline memory modules)
For future expansion, can be used to increase memory in many areas of the board including CMOS, game PROM, base PROM, or pixel graphics."

There are 3 spots for simm connectors, only 2 connectors are installed on most boards

Thanks,
Wayne

You are right Wayne, here is a picture of one type of IGT 72 pin add on memory, this has battery back up and is 4mb, just a note one way to quickly tell a  504 board is those simm sockets are Black on most (but not all) of the 504 boards and White on the 502's, Lottery jurisdictions have extra security features that require additional backup memory, the most common thing is for a watchdog circuit when the door is opened when game is off
