Just back in town from delivering several machines. While out decided to visit the renovated and updated Casino Windsor, now Caesar's Windsor, to do some "field research".  arrow

Saw some examples of our future machines....seems that fighting to get glass we need will no longer be an issue.  As you can see all diplay panels of these machined are LCD's and with each game change you can bet the display changes as well. Question is can we afford these machines in the after market?

Sorry for the crappy phone pictures...took these fast in fear of security coming down on top of me. The pictures are of WMS and IGT's in that order in both cases the top panels were LCD's.

And here is a picture of a WMS transmissive reel machine with the LCD layer over the reels.  These were fun to play...did not pay for crap, but were fun.

I think we will be able to afford them in the aftermarket.  The Sands in Bethlehem PA has all new bluebirds2 just like your pictures.   It will just takes time.  5  - 10 years perhaps.   I remember looking at the $15,000 42" plasma tv in circuit city.  That TV is now $400 in costco.   I am more afraid of the server based setup.  If the machines go server based then there's no way they can be in our homes

Those machines are crazy fun to play right-  I love when the reel explodes into flames when you get a bonus round.  It's really really cool!  There's also a pig game where the pigs come out and interfere with the reels.

Notice on those two WMS with transmissive reels that the outcome is the same on both machines. (Bar, Double Bar, Seven)
What are the chances of that?

Staout there is a transparent LCD screen over the reels.    It is programmed to be timed with the spinning of the reels and to overlay bonus rounds.  It produces incredible special effects on mechanical slots.

Yea - I've only seen them at Mohegan Sun but I have to say the effect is really cool.  Truly the best of both worlds.  You get reels with full bonus features.

I think that the market is good for buyers now as most casinos are getting rid of the S2000's etc and going with this "dumb terminal" style gaming model. In 5 to 10 yrs, the market for machines may "dry up" as most machines will have been purchased for peoples homes and since the dumb terminals won't be able to be used in a person's home, that may be it for the market. However, pachislos may still be available as I don't see Japanese gaming parlors going for the server based machines.

On the WMS transmissive games the physical reels just have outlines of the symbols and the overlayed LCD screen adds the graphics of the bars and colors the 7's and such.

I was fooling around awhile ago with the hot hot jackpot 3 reel transmissive multi-games and noticed that if you get the free spin bonus on one theme as soon as it's over you can switch to another theme on the machine and get the free spins on it within just a few pulls and when those are over move to another theme and the same happens.. weird. Me and a few friends played them for hours doing this, the bonuses weren't paying much but we weren't losing either.

Per the cost issue - LCD screens are relatively cheap....

Assuming we spend $60 (at the low end) for a glass kit. 10 x kits = $600, so I am sure the screens will cost less than that.
I am more concerned that these are part of a player tracking system and that they will be controlled from some server based platform.

I'm still not completely understanding this concept...
The transmissive reels... Scratch Head 3
The LCDs have like 3 or 4 "holes" in the screens
so you can see the actual physical reels spinning behind them?
Is there anything going on in the top  box LCD screen?
or do they just display the game name graphic?

Bunker,

You may have seen an IGT REEL DEPTH machine? On these machines they use multi layer clear LCD's to give 3D-ish effects. It is pretty cool, and the "REELS" on these machines are actually pictures in the LCD, not "real reels!" bust gut laughing rotflmao bust gut laughing

I personally like the look of the WMS machines with the "real reels!" I think that they use better brighter colors as well. I did better on the Indiana Jones though, plus I like the movie clips in the bonus round and spinning wheel up above. My Mom and Aunt were playing the Monopoly games right next to me, so I was able to compare alot. We shared the bonus round entertainment being right next to each other, it was fun. I actually played 3.5 hours on $20, so I was jazzed!  applause propeller applause Even with small bets my $20 on the new Star Wars games lasted about 10 minutes and no bonus rounds!  bawling bawling bawling  My comparison comes from the IGT Indian Jones machine and the WMS Monopoly machines. I have a bunch of videos from these machines on my camera that I need to figure out how to put up on YouTube to share with people from my last Reno trip.

Regards,

Here is the IGT page that has a short video of the Indy game I played....

https://www.igt.com/GamingGroup/Games/base.asp?pid=5.401

Archjds has posted examples of the WMS games.

They are entertaining to play, but it can be deceiving! Pay 90 cents, and have alot of fanfare from winning 15 cents!  frying pan frying pan frying pan

Holy Crappers That's huge!
IGT will do anything to grab your attention...
they must of did a study and found out that people are attracted to the "tallest" machines?
( I don't think I can stick one of those into my subaru... Tongue Out)
The reel screen is so busy that you are totally attracted to it like a kid in front of the TV.
Amazing how the reels looks so bloody real.
I like how it looks though. The colors are vibrant.
The newest video (8liners) boards are putting out very good graphics as well.
The newest boards run around $800 to $1,200 or more.
I'm finding used ones for around $175 - $300...
pretty soon, I'll make myself a game that'll knock your socks off!   Tongue Out
But I'm gonna need a ten story high warehouse....LOL
Bags of money will drop on your head...

ARCHJDS,

Thanks for posting, that was the game that My Mom and Aunt were playing. It had a bonus top box of some airplane related bonus.

Bunker, see what I was saying about the vivid color in the WMS game. Indy is a little dark and subdued, but in their defense they are different games themes for sure.

They already do this on Pachislo machines but it is nothing like Reel Depth..........You have one LCD screen and virtualized reels or real reels and the LCD theme around them. An example would be the Gamera High Grade pachislo.

Bunker,

Wait (probably a while, ha ha) till you see the video of me playing from my perspective as I look up at the bonus reel. I thought that I may fall back in the chair!!  bust gut laughing bust gut laughing bust gut laughing It was fun to play, I just played max lines at a penny or two or three per line for the fun of it. It was less that S+ 3 quarters per game, but if you hit max bet, say bye bye to your money!  Duh! Duh! Duh!

This would be fun to have at home, just would have to put a hole in the roof to fit it!  frying pan frying pan I heard rumor of someone who has software for another Indy game, but no AVP machine to install it on to!  bawling bawling bawling Zip Lip
