My first progressive: need help setting up.

I just bought this from another NLG member. Its my first progressive machine and need help getting it up and running. I'm new at this so I don't even know what type on progressive controller it is  it is. the numbers on the one chip say u19cs e4b6 /   ch2 sta/v1.41/  c97 mikohn.

Problem. when I power up the machine it goes thru a check list and ends with a code c1 that flip back and forth to ($0.00)

The machine operates as I think the last owner cleared all the memory and set the denomination to .25c and disabled the printer.

Any ideas on what I can do to get up to speed on these units and get this system working again.

Seems to be a Cham 2+ standalone.  You posted this in the right section and there is pleeeeenty of reading on this unit.  I'm sure other more experienced members
will help you on this unit but you will be needing a older computer with the Mikohn PSP program running and a cable that you can make to program the controller.

How is the display mounted in the top? is it glued to a wood frame on the glass or do you have brackets in the top box for the display?

The meter is attached to the back of the glass by some glued on brackets.

When you say an old computer I still have TI 16, I'm pretty sure I can find my IBM 286 out in the garage or I have a lap top that about 4 years old. Will this work ? also where can I get a copy of the Mikohn PSP program? and Instruction on how to make the cable ?

Man there sure is a lot too read.

Older computer,should of said older OS. I believe its not to good with Vista and I think windows 98 is a coin flip.  Lets wait for the progressive gurus to comment.

A computer with Windows XP 32 bit, 98 or 98 SE will do just fine for PSP.
I would say try XP first for networking.

Best to have a physical serial port even though I use a USB to Com Port adapter myself.

I use Sun Virtual Box to allow Windows XP Pro 32 bit to run on Windows 7 Ultimate RC1
I use mikohn PSP and EasyPRO software for my EasyPRO 90B chip programmer on Windows XP.
My Serial port is a USB to Com Port adapter based on a FTDI Chip chipset,

I have actually ran Windows XP, PSP, and EasyPRO on a Sun VirtualBox on a Mac as well with no issues.

Thanks Guys I'm almost there with the stuff I need to get started. The last thing I think I need is the psp programe. Does any have a copy or know where I might get one.

I just tried to communicate between the con2 controller with the psp and I got my first error message wondering if any one can help. I built the cable as per the instruction and I get a error code (default error check controller #1) using the trouble shooting in the back of the book it states the computer is not connected to the controller.
Question in chapter three 3.2 it states I should connect the computer to the j4 plug. My j4 plug is not RS 232 could this be it?
Has anyone got a starting point for diagnostic.

I am using a XP lap top and have configured com1 to serial interface. I built the cable as per the instruction. Did I miss something?  
My bad I broke the wire off the terminal when I tried to fit the connecter in housing.

If you find that uploads fail, reboot the controller just before you hit "Send".

Upon further investigation I have found the j7 connector cable between the chamii and the slot machine is missing. Does anyone have an extra cable?

Also in the on board settings under menu=addr there is no Proto to flip between con2 and caslink

The cable betweeen the controller and the slot machine is one you usually make yourself, not sure if anyone will have one for sale. Try Jim at Blueridge Slots.

I seems easy enough to make the cable if I had the j7 connector for the ChamII

I also Have another Question in the J4 plug on the ChamII there is a red and an black wire connected to pins 2 TX+ and pins 3 TX-. These wires run to the lower cabinet and attach to a 6 pin connector. In the six pin connector there are three other wire that connect to the cpu board j85 connector plug. Pins 1 serial return, pins 2 grd, pins 3 machine input. Was this connector suppose to plug into something that is now missing.

Hmm, I don't have anything connected to J4.

As far as the board settings missing the protocol, my firmware version is much newer (2.07) than yours. I have the option to select CON2 and CASLINK.

I'd check with the vendors on top for the firmware...
they might have something laying around...including cables...
You're talking about stuff made in the late 80's-90's.
it highly unlikely anyone is actually producing this stuff anymore.
We've been archiving everything we can can get our hands on for people just like you!
These cable are not too hard to make...
try it!, it's fun to make your own stuff!
The pieces and parts are readily available from electronic websites such as mouser.com.
I can help you try to locate all the parts and perhaps construct one for your use.

The J7 connector can be had at an electronics supply company, like Mouser or Jameco. I used Cat5 cable for mine, and an IDC connector (less hassle than the crimp-type connectors). As Bunker stated, these machines are old and findingg this cable would be pretty tough.

I'd try Jim at Blueridge Slots for the firmware eprom, and if he doesn't have it, there's a good chance April at Lemans1969 Slots will. Links to both of them are at the top of this (and every) page.

Sure, a CON2I would be great if you have all IGT machines, but you're looking at several hundred dollars just for the controller. After that, you'll need a Supreme display (the bigger the better) and a Supreme controller.

Here you go. There's 2 models, one for IGT (hence the I suffix in the name) and a CON2A, which works for non-IGT machines.
