Over the last couple of months I have had a few S2000 machines that develop door MB open error code. The problem follows the main board . Does anyone know what circuit would control that function. Read thread on battery corrosion but both boards look good. It looks as this may be a future problem for the S 2000's as I know of 3 other people with the same problem all board related.  Scratch Head Scratch Head

I was getting the open door door code and having a hard time
getting my S2000 MPU to see that the bloody door was indeed F--ing closed!!!
I changed optics and everything...
something on the MPU was burning out brand new my brand new door-side LED emitters.
I had enough...

I solved that issue forever...

I re-routed the 2 wires from the door optic under the reel tray to the cherry switch by the DBV.
I hooked up the other cabinet side optic wires to the cherry switch and closed the door...
NO MORE ERRORS!

Never, ever,  will I go back to door optics...they are NOT needed.
That's ONLY a casino security device...it's NOT needed for home use.
Plus, now I have the added bonus of pulling out the plunger on the cherry switch to
observe the machine in action - while the door is wide open!
The same can probably apply to "MB" codes...
You could stick a new cherry switch there or solder the wires together to "close" the line.

The other thing about battery corrosion is this:
You can't visually see it...
it resides under the Eprom sockets intermittently shorting out pins together...
this in turn, causes corruption of the eprom.
It comes and goes but progressively gets worse.
You have to remove the sockets from the board to clean the area.
I noticed the pinball guys have to do that but they use a mix of vinegar and water.
A hair dryer and compressed air.

On my old car I used to use baking soda (base) and water. It reacts with the acid and cleans up.

I had a friend that used to pour a bottle of coke on his car windshield.
Then he used the spray to rinse it...he always had the clearest windshields?

I've had two S2000 MPU boards that had Door Open MB errors.  U92 was bad on one of them, and the other had cold solder joints in the same area.  Both showed evidence of battery leakage and corrosion.  I remove the green 3.6v nicad batteries from every S2000 board I have now and chuck them  in the trash.  It's sole purpose is keep alive "telltale circuitry" that will log security events if doors are opened when AC power is off.  Great for the casino, but probably needed at home.  While I have the board out I also install a CMOS battery socket and new CMOS battery.  The next time I have a low battery error I can just pop it out and put a new one in.

So does that mean that you have removed ALL the door optics from ALL of your machines? Because I agree with you, they are a PITA so if I could convert to cherry switches, that would be better.

My S2000 had a cherry switch not being used...I put it to good use.
It really the only machine I use at home.
The others are all a PITA's at work...LOL (They use optics)

Edited to fix error in wire colors.

Only one wire from each optic plug from the door/cabinet or motherboard.

Red with white stripe wire on connector at the door connector itself for the optic and Green Wire at the cabinet connection
Motherboard J19 Red with White Stripe (Speakers) and J11 Green Wire

If you have the Switch in the cabinet for the work lamp in the lower cabinet you can use the other pole for the wires from the optics
I have used a wire jumping the 2 wires mentioned to test things with the door open.

This can also be done on the S+ but you have to unplug the optics for it to work properly.

Thanks for the info.  applause applause I will check the U92 . So when the machine is powered up does it give any error code since the 3.6 niccad battery is now removed ??

I edited my post above.
Red with white stripe wire in door harness going to optic and Green wire in going to cabinet optic
Use these at the motherboard connectors as well.

No, the MPU does not monitor the nicad battery voltage level.  It only monitors the 3V coin cell battery that backs up the CMOS memory.

What component is at location U92 and how may it be properly "checked"?

It's MC14536 programmable timer.  It generates a clock that is used by other components in the telltale circuitry.  It'd be really tough to check without an extender card/cables and an oscilloscope.  My MPU had a thermal intermittent.  When I first turned the machine on it displayed "Door Open MB" until it warmed up after a few minutes, and then it cleared.  I was able to trace it down to U92 by spraying component cooler on the components that make up the Door Open detection circuity.  When I cooled U92 the error would re-appear, warm it up and it went away.  So I replaced it, and haven't had that problem since.

That's an extremely excellent answer Tilt... Hail

You'd think someone like you would own at least
one of the cheaper oscilloscopes on the market?
Do you have one of these?
They're really not that expensive...
I'll shop around and see if I can locate one cheap!
I got mine from Hong Kong for about $27.00>>>

I also had a board that did this same exact thing - just leave the machine on for a little bit and the error would clear on it's own.  I no longer have that board to test this out on...  hissy fit

I have a Tektronix 2246 oscope that I picked up used a few years back.  I've never used one of the smaller logic probe style scopes, but I can see where they'd be really handy when you just need to know if a signal is there or not.
