Williams slot problem

I have a Williams stampede without the dot matrix display.It has no display lights.I thought it maybe a power supply problem and took out the power supply and found a blown f1 10 amp fuse and replaced it.Put it back in and it blew again immediately.I tried leaving the bill val.,hooper and coin chute disconnected the same thing -blew fuse.I then took out the power supply and transformer .I powered up the supply without the transformer and it didn't blow the fuse.I then hooked up the transformer and the fuse blew immediately.the transformer seemed to have a hum to it.Can anyone please help.

The Dotmation lower supply is not all the complicated to troubleshoot. The bad part is it's IMPOSSIBLE to get into it while its installed....
Test it with the DC outputs disconnect, to make sure the short is not in the cabinet, but in the supply itself.
If it still blows the fuse,it's IN the supply.Pull the supply and look for shorted diodes, shorted filter caps. This would be a fine time to replace these as they are over 10 years old (1995).Remember that the Dotmation supply also distributes 120Volt AC thru those small 4 pin connectors. Look for discoloration,charring of the board as well as caps that look bulged top or bottom. (once again time to replace them anyways).One telltale clue on the Dotmations, is the front door lamps will flicker,especially when the machine is cold (just turned on).If your getting a "Dot Fail" on the displays before it blew fuses...it's cap replacement time. I don't have a print/schematic for this supply, maybe one of the guys here has one and can post it for you in the file area?
Don't let that supply intimidate you..it's not that bad a supply to troubleshoot...

I posted in the New file area..a PDF for the 400/401 series machines. Hopefully this will help you navigate around the 400 series machines. I think the lower powersupply is identical on both the 400/401 and 40S5 series....
