Reel(s) do not always stop.

This had been occurring lately with my S+.

When playing it, sometimes the reels will not stop,
Sometimes just reel 3, sometimes reels 2 and 3, and sometimes all 3 will not stop.

I tried swapping MPU from a 10Mhz SP1271 SS7200 (Five Times Pay, Diamond Fives) to 16Mhz Board SP1309 and the SS7200.
Both boards have the issue.

I do not get any reel tilts until I open the door, then I get either a 41, 42, 43 tilt.
I usually get 41 if all 3 are still spinning, 42 if reel 1, has stopped, 43 if reels 1 and 2 have stopped.

Have you tried a full clear of the motherboard EEPROM?

FYI forgot to say I can clear the issue each time by opening the door. The reels that are spinning go to slow or tilt speed. Then I clear the tilt with JP key.

1 Connectors Reseated
2 CMOS RAM & EEPROM Cleared. Issue showed up again within 5 games after clearing.

   I would have suspected a software or a communications issue, but you've cleared the EEPROM and tried multiple MPU boards and SP chips.  

Changing out the MPU board multiple times eliminates the possibility of damaged surface components. My next suggestion would be to swap out the main reel harness and to check the reel optics (although it seems very unlikely that this would be the cause).

After that, I'd look to the PS. Power issues can cause all kinds of weird computer symptoms.

Door optic circuit disruption would bring the reels to a crashing halt; it wouldn't keep them spinning indefinitely. Foster also stated that he gets a reel tilt (inferring that the reels that are still spinning, stop.) only after he opens the door. This also indicates that the door optics are functional and that the CPU is responsive to them.

I have seen on the S-2000 if the door moves reels spin slowly on  tilt ,S+ is probably different. Hoping that was the problem.

Actually the S+ does the slow reel spin thing sometimes if the door is opened while the reels are spinning.  Do you have a spare motherboard you can put in since you've eliminated almost any of the other possbile issues (other than the power supply previously mentioned).

I tried another SS chip, I played 100 games, not knowing what the machine would pay.
The test SS chip used is a SS3632, I left the Diamond Fives glass and strips in the machine.
Could not reproduce the problem with the SS3632 chip.

I then decided to read the SS7200 with my programmer. took me about 20+  reads with the software then I got a different checksum and verify error.
I made a replacement chip (form my backup files) and played approx 100 games, so far no issues.

I will try to play about 1000 games or so and report back if the issue re-appears.

Interesting. So it goes back to my original thought that it was a software issue. Although technically, if the read errors were the result of the EPROM beginning to fail, that could be considered a hardware issue.    Looking back, I see that even though you swapped boards and SP chips, you kept the SS7200 in both cases. I completely missed that the first time around.

Hopefully the new chip will solve the problem.
