just found this cool site!

it looks like I need a new power supply for my jackpot stampede deluxe (no boot, no error codes, middle three LED's on main board are off).  i don't think i have what it takes to do the computer supply conversion without releasing smoke, and i don't want to butcher the machine, so i was curious if there is any way to buy an original wms power supply or to purchase a computer supply that is pre-wired with custom harnesses such that it can be plug and play.

Also, when the machine is working,  i notice that the third reel is a bit out of alignment with the payline.  is there an easy fix for this?

one more: I changed the battery as part of troubleshooting the boot problem.  Did I screw something up by removing the battery or is it OK?

thanks.

Completely dead.....unusual..unless it blew the primary fuse (even then usually not fatal).Original lower supplies are RARE. Repairing them is not that hard.Doing the upgrade is well documented here, step by step.

yes, easy fix..see the little black plastic "hook" that lives in the edge of the reel? notice it sits in a area thats "serrated". Simply move it one way or the other..a few serrations at a time...until it lines up correctly. If the reels look "tilted" (and they will) tighten up the backplate on the reel assembly. If they are black plastic, this plate will NOT be there. In that case carefully place a shim under the back part (foot) of the reel...about the size of a quarter..it will be right on after that.

Yes, it's not all that bad..but I HIGHLY suspect your going to need a Clear Chip, sometimes not..but usually the case.
Deal with the power supply issue first.....

You are very welcome!

Edited to fix quoting

Definition of "Retirement"= to be able to get back all you contributed into it AND take some of their money too before dropping dead.

Just a note on the adjustable reel opto flag (the "hook" on the reel basket) -- BE GENTLE!  The reel baskets tend to be fragile and after this many years rather brittle.  The opto flag, too.  Be as gentle as you can when handling the flag so you don't break it or the reel basket itself.

Welcome to  nlg  -- as Kirk said, you've found a great site with a lot of helpful people.  This is hands-down the best site for information for home slot machine owners.

So I did Clay's power supply mod and it went well.  All five power LED's are lit and the CC and the Bill Validator fire up.  The FAIL LED lights as well, but sometimes seems to go off when I open the door to the card slots.

The Dotmation goes through its self test no prob.

The speaker does not beep, but makes a "burp" when turned on.

No action at all on the reels (or reel lights) or the LED display on the doors.

Does anyone know what's wrong?  This is a machine that worked perfectly until one day it failed to boot, and i assumed it was the power supply.  Could changing the battery have done this?

(edit) ONE MORE CLUE: the 7-segment display on the CPU board says "2" I think.  (Why did they put it so far back?)

Thanks in advance.

I think I'd try a RAM clear at this point -- it's possible that stuff got corrupted when it was getting half-power from your old power supply.  If you need a chip, one of the sponsoring vendors at the top of the page should be able to help you out, or you can post in the classifieds section a "WTB" (want to buy) posting.  Clear chips for the WMS Dotmation games are denomination-specific, so be sure to mention that in your request (ie. if you have a $0.25 machine you need a $0.25 clear chip).  If nothing else, it'd be good to have that as you'll need it if/when you ever change game themes.
