Hi, I am a new slot owner and have a few questions about the total impact universal slot machine.  First, the machine will not take any coins (quarters or tokens), it keeps rejecting them.  What should I look for first on the coin comparitor?  Second, the side pull handle doesn't lock and you can pull it down anytime (the reels dont spin when there is a credit in).   Can I change the odds of the machine payout?   Does anyone know where or what (cheapest price) to get a conversion kit (to make the machine just work on credits)?  Thanks

Total Impact, is that a Ultra Series machine? Should say "Ultra Series" in the upper left hand corner of the reel glass.
If the comparitor doesn't work how did you get credits on it?  Scratch Head
No, you cannot change the odds on the machine. (to change odds you need to change the game chip to a better payback chip. Finding Ultra Series game chips is nearly impossible!!!)
And No, there is no such thing as a "conversion kit" to make the machine work on credits. Does it have a Dollar Bill Validator?

About your problems;
This sure sounds like an Ultra Series problem. Before you go changing the comparitor or testing the reels, etc, you need to check the connection between the main board and the backplane. See this thread; http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1292.0

And this one; http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1295.0

Yes, it is an ultra series.  It does have a bill validator which works (how i got the credits).  It only works with the old style bills...how or could I change it to a new style acceptor?  Okay the coins do work now and same with tokens after a good clean and reconnecting it all.  The side pull handle still doesn't work..What should I check for that?

Wow, that was quick. Good job!
The bill validator is the ancient DBV-145. Sorry, there is no upgrade for this validator in a Universal.
But, if your interested, I can show you how to set the game for pennies so each dollar inserted gives you 100 credits.
Now the handle. You say it goes back and forth and does not lock. I have this same problem with one of my machines and been too lazy to fix it. So, give me a bit as now I will fix it and then let you know how.

Thanks... How do you convert it so each dollar gies you 100 credits?  Also, there is no where to buy a chip to make the odds better?

Ok, my handle now works again!
Look at the pics below. The "unlocked" picture shows the solenoid has pulled down the latch. (yellow arrow points to latch)
The red arrow points to where I applied a little WD40. A little lubrication is all it required.

The "locked" picture shows the latch returning to the lock position when the handle is pulled. A spring pulls it back up.

The Twin Thunder had a DBV-145 in it when I got it. Threw it in the trashcan and replaced it with a DBV-200...works fine now Smiley

To convert to 100 credits per dollar;
1. Shut off the machine.
2. Pull out the MPU board.
3. On DIP #3 set switch #1 ON and #2,#3, and #4 OFF. Don't touch the rest.
4. Put MPU back in machine.
5. Perform RAM clear. (Hold three buttons on front of MPU while starting machine) Should see an error 19 indicating an "all clear" in the win meter along with the usual error 50 (door open).

I won't say there is no way to find an upgrade for your game, but I've found it very difficult to find any game chips at all! These machines are very rare. If you ever need parts, BlueRidge Slots may, MAY have it. I have a lot of spare parts although I'm not in the slot business, just a hobbiest. (Always willing to help fellow Uni owners)

Universal went out of business before the DBV-200. As a result JCM never wrote the 200 software for a Universal machine.

If you press the green test button once it will show the Machine chip and Game chip numbers. With the game chip number I can tell you the % payback your chip has.
You will see eight different numbers in the WIN and CREDIT meters.
1 will be the number 1  (test number)
2 should be 95033                                             machine chip #
3 might be  00024                                             machine chip version
4 should be 96009                                             game chip #
5 write this one down! It tells me what % you have  game chip version
6 think it is  95019                                             support chip #
7 something like 00014                                       support chip version
8. the credit limit, maybe 02500

They will keep repeating until you close the door or press the yellow reset.
Uniman signing off. (if you reply in the next ten minutes, I'll check.)

Ok here is what it reads (it is only two coin also):
001
94003
0019
96009
0004
94014
0005

96009

Ok, your game #96009.0004 is a 90.823% return machine.
As with all Ultra Series there are 256 virtual stops per reel. So, 256x256x256= a 16,777,216 cycle.
There 64 chances in 16,777,216 to hit the jackpot. (Three Total Impact symbols on the line.)
384 chances of hitting two "Total Impact" symbols and one off of the line.
768 chances of hitting one "Total Impact" symbol and two off of the line.
