I am hopping someone can help me with this.
I have 2 game maker slant tops. One works perfect.
The other has a bill validator issue. it says "incorrect Protocol" for the bill acceptor.
Both machines have DBV 200 validators.
I can swap the MPU boards and then the oposite machine has the same problem. The problem follows the MPU board.
I can swap out the mains on the boards and the problem still stays with the board.

I have verified all jumper settings and dip switches are the same.

Did you do a complete clear with that MPU yet? In the setup there is a choice for you BV and comparitor, maybe its set on the wrong one.

I cleared the eprom and ram many times. Dips 7 & 8.
I set it to JCM BVD. I even tried to toggle the settings by telling it JCM WBA one time and then back to BVD.
When I set to WBA the acceptor ran constantly so I know that the setting function is actually doing something.
I actually have 3 boards that all act the same and 1 that works fine.
I think there has to be something programed diferently on these 3.

You stated you have done many clears with dip 7 & 8. I notice in the manuals they show to turn dips 1-8. I don't think it will do anything to change your symptoms/problems, but would be worth a try if not tried yet. Has anyone tried disconnecting battery via jumper setting used for shipping, too cause complete memory loss?

Keep us informed. This has to be something simple.

Tried dip 8 clear 1st.
Cleared safe ram only.
Went through basic settings.
BVD showed invalid protocol.

Tried dip 7 and 8.
This cleared Eprom and safe ram.
This allowed additional settings to be changed.
Such as jusrisdiction and Bill acceptor type, etc.
BVD still showed invalid protocol.

Tried combinations of 7 only, 7 first, 7 last, 8 only, etc.
Still same.

Thanks

I also tried to disconnect the batter with jumper for a few minutes.

Thanks

Check the pins on the connectors that go to the backplane, make sure none are bent or rammed in.  Otherwise sounds like a board issue.

Thanks,

Yes that is a good point.
I checked the pins and connectors.
I was going to check for continuity from the backplane board to the BVD also but since I have one board that plugs into two machines and works fine and I have 3 boards that have the same problem and don't work in either machine, I have narrowed it down to the boards.

Does anyone have info on what each of removable IC chips on the board are for and the jumpers. I know the 4 jumpers related to the main chip size and the battery jumpper.
I have set the jumpers the same as my good board becuase they came with W4 and W35 removed for some reason.

Thanks for the jumper settings.
I had not noticed all of the small soldered in jumpers. I had been focussing on the Push on type.
I verified that they all match my good board.
It appears that JW13 and 14 decide the BVD RX and TX interface.
They are both pos 1 for ISOL.
I am now trying to figure out which IC is actually communicating with the BVD.
I plan to swap it with my good one.

Thanks,

Yes, it is U28.

I found that U28 had the RX and TX for the BVD.
I swapped it out with the one from my good board and it works.
I now need 3 good U28 chips.
Anyone??????

Thanks for your help.
