Slot Losers of America / Tokie Owens

« on: December 29, 2009, 06:16:52 PM »

How do you guys feel about Randy Fromm? I know he holds the monitor repair schools and casinos do save by having their techs fix machines on the spot. But with the new platforms for server based gaming, their may not be a market for fixing stuff at the component level anymore. I have never seen the inside of a slot lab or repair room, must be wild.

He used to be a member here before the board was re-built to comply with the 2.0 software.  I have not heard from him since, but the stuff on his site is very good.  That's where I started to get some details on mikohn stuff.

During G2E you can take a behind the scenes tour, they are popular and you need to register early. They show you all the back room stuff.

Hello. I am here! I saw this message so I signed up again.

FYI, the hardware is more or less the same for server-based machines as it is for conventional machines. Failures will be the same: Power Supplies, displays (LCD of course. Lots of failures here, Power supplies, inverters, CCFL), bill validators, ticket printers (until EFT happens), magcard readers, player interface (touchscreens, buttons), and miscellaneous pinched or open wires, bad connectors, fractured solder joints, corrupted software and a host of other things.

Being SBG just adds a layer of complexity. It doesn't make things any simpler or less failure-prone.
