I suspect this guy is more like Eddie Haskell - a bit of a sh*t disturber. Reading between the lines they were probably afraid of conspiritorists rather than another bomb.

Sh*t disturber, yeah, sure. A mighty inconvenient witness, if you ask me. Everything about that event is screaming "TIME TO TERRIFY THE PEOPLE AGAIN, SO THEY'LL LET US KEEP DOING WHAT WE WANT". And that ain't Al Quaeda talking. The bomber wouldn't have got on the plane without the assistance of the security services.
